Say...Shamrocks! School Pictures with Photographer Steven Yeager, 9/13 & 14

School picture days are fast approaching. Watch for word from your teacher as to which day your child's class will be assigned to sit for portraits. To make it easier to plan your child's picture day outfit, Steven Yeager is releasing pictures of the backdrop that will be used this year. The photo to the right (the door with greenery) will be blurred and fuzzy in the background and will end up looking like the portraits featured on the left. Suggested colors for clothing choices will be listed on the photo form that will go home this Friday.

Grant Family BBQ

Friday, Sep. 14th, 5pm

200 Grant Avenue

Petaluma, CA

Don't miss the Grant Family PTA BBQ on Friday, September 14th. It's a time to come together as a community and reconnect or get to know each other as the school year gets underway. The kids have a blast dancing to the sounds of a DJ and running around the field. Dinner provided by the PTA--please bring your own water bottle. What could be better than a free dinner with friends both old and new?

Staff Spotlight: Alice Crysdale

Mrs.Crysdale is a true treasure. She not only serves as our school librarian, she also is an instructional aide in our classrooms. She is the mother of three Grant alumni, two of which have moved on to university and her youngest attends Petaluma High school. She lives around the corner from Grant and enjoys gardening, cooking, reading and traveling. She is fluent in Portuguese, French, English, and Spanish! This year she helps out every morning in Mrs. Reed's K/1 class and serves on the PTA board. She is a patient, kind and incredibly generous staff member that brings joy to every room she enters here at Grant. We are so very lucky to have her!

Beebots in 1st Grade!

This week 1st graders in B-2 had the opportunity to begin exploring with bee-bots. What are bee-bots you ask? They are fun and easy to use robots that help students begin to understand computer coding as well as practice scientific/mathematical skills including sequencing, estimation, and problem-solving. Ms. Beavers' goal this year is for her students to be able to solve, build, and write codes with their partners. This week our focus was to become familiar with how to control the bee-bots while also practicing how to share with a partner.

Big picture

In the 4th grade Mrs. Reyes fosters student engagement at the start of the year by having students consider some important questions.
