SOME IMPORTANT BACK TO SCHOOL INFO ABOUT LUNCH ...
Parents of Kindergarten students, do your children have funds in their lunch accounts yet? School starts Monday and Tuesday for them and we know they will be hungry, hungry! They must have money in their accounts even if they bring their lunches in order to purchase water, juice or milk.
It is also a good idea for parents of students that bring their lunches to place a minimal amount in their children's accounts. You never know when they may forget their lunches or someone accidentally steps on their lunch bags or their drink spills in their lunch boxes, etc. Been there ... done that.
NEW IN THE SMM SCHOOL HANDBOOK
Please take time to thoroughly read the SMM School Handbook. There is a great deal of new, vital information added this year that is important for both students AND parents. Please pay particular attention to our new Positive Behavior System and Behavior Expectations in section 800. We are looking forward to a great school year filled with kind, responsible, respectful, and safe students.
SPECIAL DRESS CODE NOTE FOR PARENTS OF GIRLS (section 900-1)
Students may ONLY wear hair bows that are solid white, navy, red or school plaid. Regular
headbands are acceptable in the same colors. Headbands with balls, ears, or any other attachments are not allowed.
IT'S TIME TO DIVE BACK IN ...
The swim team is open to students in grades 2 – 7. Team members must be able to swim a minimum of 25 yards of freestyle unassisted. Prior swim team experience is preferred. Students who do not have prior swim team experience must pass a swim test to participate. Swim team is not swim lessons.
Swimmers in 2nd - 4th grades will compete in an elementary league with meets on the Northshore and in Picayune, MS.
Swimmers in 5th - 7th grades will compete in the Metro New Orleans Middle School League and the Northshore Middle School League. Meets will be held in various locations, including Destrehan, UNO and Mandeville.
Parents must understand that meet attendance will require travel to these locations and is part of the team commitment. Swimmers must have a signed permission slip in order to participate.
The cost to participate on the swim team is $50.00 per swimmer. This covers the pool rental fees, entry fees and the team swim cap. This is required of every member of the team, even those swimmers practicing at other facilities.
Practice Schedule:
Mondays and Wednesdays, beginning August 20th, 5 - 6 pm., at Pinewood Country Club, 405 Country Club Blvd. On Monday, August 20th, all swimmers will be evaluated for lane placement.
Equipment required:
1. Swimmers must purchase their own competition-style swimsuits. It is recommended that parents order the suits online. One reliable site is swimoutlet.com but there are other sites which stock the team suits as listed here:
Girls' team suit: The Finals Reactor Splice Competition Back in navy/red.
Boys' team suit: The Finals Reactor Splice Jammer in navy/red.
The sizes used for swimsuits may be unfamiliar to some parents. Please be sure to use the sizing chart to determine the proper size to order.
Due to the cost of competition suits, swimmers are encouraged to use another suit for practice, to maintain the fabric. A suit worn to practice does not have to be a competition style suit. Girls must wear a one-piece suit and boys should wear trunks.
2. All swimmers must provide their own competition-style goggles. These can be purchased at Academy Sporting Goods or online. Some recommended brands: Speedo and Tyr.
If you have any further questions, please contact Coach Erin Abdalla at eabdalla@saintmm.org or Team Moderator Sheila Ganucheau at sganucheau@saintmm.org.
