A newletter from the PMS Library
New Books!
The library has just received a significant portion of our winter book order. We have a lot of fiction, including sequels to a lot of popular books. Please take a look at the list here: New Books January. I have read a few of the, and have posted my book talks on my website Page by Page by Page. A podcast for one of them is below.
MeBeforeYou
Digital Literacy
We've been working on digital literacy with 5th graders. Many students think that they are digitally literate because they've been around devices their entire life. I like to make the analogy that just because they've ridden in a car their entire life, it doesn't mean they know how to drive it. We've been covering items such as sharing photos, posting, texting, etc. If you are observing certain digital behaviors with your students that you are concerned about, please let me know. It is important to start conversations early.
Items for Innovation
One of my roles as the school librarian is to provide tools to help innovate teaching. If you exposed to a pieces of technology that you would like to use in your classroom, please let me know. I will help you go through the proper channels to try and connect you with that technology.
Makerspace Wednesdays
Makerspace Wednesdays have been a hit. I think Chuck Smet and I could be offering them daily, and we'd still have a full house. Some of the upcoming offerings will include a valentine craft, cooking, green screen, and maybe even using the 3-D printer.
Our next bulletin board
We'll be going Valentine for our next bulletin board. The theme will be, Why I love our library. Anyone who wants can fill out a heart which we'll be attaching to our bulletin board.
Reading Challenge
Last year, I completed a reading challenge by the blogger Modern Mrs. Darcy. I really enjoyed the challenge because it forced me to read out of my normal reading preferences.
