Important information, dates, and school updates.
School is Back in Session This Week!
Hello Luce Families,
We have made it to the final days of Summer Vacation. Wednesday, September 1st, is the first day of school for students in grades 1-5. We are very excited to welcome all 1st to 5th-grade students back to school! On Wednesday, September 8th, we will welcome all Kindergarten Students. We can't wait to meet you!
Please see important back-to-school information below.
Start and End Times
This year the Luce School day is from 9:10 am to 3:25 pm.
Drop Off Times and Locations
Drop off time is between 8:50-9:10 am. Students in grades 2-5 can be dropped off by the main entrance and either get breakfast or head to the playground for AM recess. Staff members will be outside to direct your child to the appropriate location. Students in grades K & 1 can be dropped off by the K entrance (red doors near the gym). Staff members will be on duty to welcome your child.
Bus students will get off the bus and either go to breakfast or stay outside for AM recess. Again, we will have staff members outside to supervise students.
Late Student Protocol
If your child arrives at school after 9:15 am, we ask that you bring your child to the front door, ring the bell, and a staff member will meet you at the door to collect your child. You do not need to sign your child in this year.
School Dismissal
School dismisses at 3:25 pm. Students who are walkers will exit from multiple locations. Kindergarten students will be dismissed from the gym door. Students in 1 & 2 will exit through the red double doors near the gym. Students who are walkers in 3rd, 4th, and 5th-grade whose teachers have egress doors to the parking lot or facing Pleasant Street will exit out of those doors for dismissal.
Bus students will be escorted to their bus lines outside and will board their designated bus one at a time.
Bus Information
Bus assignments are published in the Canton Citizen. Please check the latest edition of the Canton Citizen to see your child's bus information.
Did you forget something?
If you forgot to give your child their lunch box or something small, we have a yellow bin by the front entrance that you can leave the item in. We ask that you ring the bell and let the staff member know what you are dropping off and who it is for. We will make sure to retrieve the item and bring the item to the right destination or person.
If you have medicine to drop off, you must hand-deliver it to the nurse directly.
Parking in the lot
For any families new to the Luce, we have a few visitors parking spaces in the main parking lot. If they are not available, we strongly encourage parents to park on Independence St. Staff members utilize the main parking lot and should not be blocked in by visitors.
Also, for safety reasons, please do not leave your car idling in the parking lot at any time. Finally, please make sure to drive responsibly during dropoff or pickup times.

Luce CAPT Updates
August 2021
Hi Luce Families,
Welcome back to all returning families, and a big WELCOME to all our new families to the Luce community. My name is Melanie Greitzer, and I am the acting president of the Luce C.A.P.T. My son Caleb is in 4th grade, and my daughter Maicey is in 8th grade.
It is with great enthusiasm that I invite you to get ready for another year at Luce. We are excited to work in partnership with the amazing teachers and staff at the Luce, to make this year a huge success.
What is C.A.P.T.
C.A.P.T. is the Canton Association of Parents and Teachers. We are a non-profit 501(C) (3) organization. Our mission is to provide an enriched educational experience for our children by supplementing their daily curriculum with related equipment, supplies, programs, and field trips.
During most years, C.A.P.T. funds support the school with programming such as Night Skies, New England Percussion, Kindergarten Character Visits, Top Secret Science, the school Play, Circus Week, field trips, and supplies to enrich our children’s education.
While last year looked much different from other years, with the help from our parents through volunteer and fundraising, we were still able to provide our school with many resources. Below is a short list.
● Virtual Holiday Shop for our students;
● Science Kits from Top Secret Science for all of our students;
● Education Materials such as Scholastic News, Raz Kids, “Science Spin,” and “Let’s Find Out”;
● $150 in reimbursement for teachers;
● Monthly Teacher Appreciation Treats in addition to Teacher Appreciation Week;
● 5th Grade Promotion Activities to include: T-shirts, Yearbook, Ice Cream Truck, and Ceremony
This year, we are doing our best to run as many traditional programs and fundraisers as possible while being mindful of our environment and the need to always be flexible.
The success of C.A.P.T. depends on help from the entire Luce Community. For C.A.P.T. to be effective and truly representative of the school, everyone’s participation is essential. Many parents feel that they cannot participate in C.A.P.T. because they are not able to attend meetings and are not available during the day. We want everyone to feel that they are a part of the Luce Community. Whether you have 30 minutes or a couple of hours, your ideas, time, talents, and your voice are not only welcome but encouraged. We can match your time constraints and interests to needed tasks. There are endless possibilities in ways you can help! In addition, volunteering with C.A.P.T. is a great way to get to know the other Luce families and staff.
First Meeting/Officer Positions
Our first meeting will be Tuesday, September 14, in the school library. There will also be a virtual option as well. This meeting is very important because we will be voting on a budget and possibly a Vice President since that position is open. If you are interested in learning more about the Vice President Position, please email lucecapt@gmail.com. Only CAPT members who have paid their annual dues will be able to vote. See membership details below.

Friendship Directory
Every year, the Dean S. Luce C.A.P.T. creates a Friendship Directory which includes a class list of all of the students in your child’s class and grade. This directory will allow you to find the names and addresses of your child's classmates for birthday parties, homework questions, or to connect for a play date. It serves as a means of connecting with classmates easier; however, having your child’s information printed in this directory is completely optional.
You can either submit the form online or print it out and send it to the school. Please fill out this form by Friday, September 17th.
