Varsity Girls Soccer - Coach Erpelding
630+ days since the last time 8 of our girls got the opportunity to step on the field and play for Eudora High School. Thursday night was the first time that 17 of ours girls put on a uniform and play soccer for Eudora High School. To me that is crazy and I hope this is the last time we ever go that long between games. For 19-20 of our girls it was the first soccer game they have played in that many days or even years or ever!
I will tell you this, our girls competed their tails off Thursday night to a tough Baldwin team. Coming away with a 3-3 tie was a good result considering what happened. When the game kicked off you could tell they had a game under their belt this season. They got up fairly early in the game 0-1 off a corner where a girl literally kneed the ball up into the air and it floated in just over senior goalkeeper Leah Williams outstretched hand. Lucky goal but a goal none the less. We tied it up when freshman Jayla Erpelding made a run down the sideline and whipped in a great cross that found senior Alex Pascua timing her run perfect and putting the cross into the back of the net for the first goal of the season!
A few minutes later we got a set piece from about 50 yards out. Senior Kate Erpelding put a great ball into the box which a Baldwin player blatantly handled the ball inside the box for a PK. Kate stepped up and calmly put the spot kick away for a 2-1 lead.
Another few minutes pass and we get a corner kick. Jayla scored directly from the corner for her first career high school goal and to put us up 3-1.
After this we took the foot off the gas instead of really pressing for another one to bury them. They had a PK late in the second half on a very bad call in which Lauren Grauberger (9) had her arm tucked into her body and the ball hit her arm. There was zero intent and she actually tried to avoid it. But the ref saw it differently. Their girl put her spot kick away. Baldwin tied the game about midway through the second half, 3-3. Not long after they tied Leah came to collect a ball and she got her foot smashed. Leah has two screws in her foot from a broken ankle in the fall, so you can imagine that didn't feel very good. Leah was in a lot of pain and she is one tough kid. I was just hoping it was worse than it was. So the coaches had to make a decision. Do we put in freshman goalkeeper Lainey Orr in that has only played 1 soccer game in her life and that was the JV game, and she has only played keeper for 3 weeks in her life or do we drop Kate back in goal. We went with the experienced senior Kate for the last 9 minutes.
Our defense after Leah's injury stepped up and played really really well and over the next 29 minutes only allowed 2 shots on goal and 4 total shots!! Now If they can play like that with Leah in goal, we will be extremely tough to beat. Kate stayed in goal for the overtimes which took away some of our attack but I decided it was worth that instead of asking Lainey to go into goal in a rivalry game. When I told her we would go with Kate her response was "I'm ready if you need me to go in" I can't love that response enough!
Our girls for the final 29 minutes showed a lot of guts in a pretty adverse situation and really stepped up to the challenge. We couldn't be more proud of our girls. Especially at the end of the game, we had 5 freshmen on the field! We could have won this game but to come away with a tie considering Leah going out, we are happy with.
JV Girls Soccer - Coach Weirick
JV played an awesome game Thursday night. For the majority of our squad, this was one of their first-ever soccer games., so, it says a lot about our effort and talent that we only lost by two. We had three or four great scoring opportunities. With both freshmen Addison Metcalf, Xin Clobes, and sophomore Mia Schuck having some great shots on goal. Freshmen Kyleigh Musick, Madison Woodruff, Harper Andrews, and Caitlyn Peterson did a lovely job of learning to work together as a defensive line. I'm proud of their movement on and off the ball.
In goal, we had our keeper, freshman Lainey Orr, played her first game ever. She excelled and had a few great stops. I love how she was ready to go if we needed her on the varsity level as well!
There were a few girls who played positions that they didn't have an opportunity to practice the week prior; freshman Lexi Frost at attacking and holding mid and Mia Schuck at attacking mid. I am proud of their flexibility and willingness to learn a new position on the fly.
Next week, we will continue to work on our formation as well as a few other skills that will help us improve (throw-ins, free kicks, and passing progressions). I admired the team's positivity, willingness to improve, and the way we played as a team. I can't wait to see what we accomplish this season.
Varsity Baseball - Coach Kilmer
Game 1: Eudora Cardinals Varsity Falls To Jefferson West 10-7.
Senior Sebastian Lewis started the game for Eudora Cardinals Varsity. The pitcher lasted four innings, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out seven. Senior Gavin Hobson took the loss for the Cardinals. The right hander surrendered two runs on one hit over two-thirds of an inning. The Cardinals tallied nine hits. Lewis, Hobson, and senior Zeke Reazin all collected multiple hits for Eudora. Lewis went 3-for-4 at the plate. It was a case of first game jitters that kept EHS from settling in and playing up to their potential.
Game 2: Eudora Cardinals Varsity knocked in nine runs in the third on its way to a 13-3
victory over Jefferson West on Monday. Cardinal batters contributing to the big inning included senior Will Schreiner, senior Nate Criqui, junior Bryce Clark, senior Gavin Hobson, senior Keaton Herron, and senior Zeke Reazin, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning. The Cardinals took the lead for good with nine runs in the third inning.
In the third Schreiner drew a pivotal walk, scoring one run. Schreiner was down in the count with 2 strikes and fouled pitch after pitch off in the 10 pitch battle until earning a walk, Criqui was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Clark was hit by a pitch, driving in a run, Hobson singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run, Herron singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run, Reazin doubled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs, Watkins induced junior Taggert Courter to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Trenton Long singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
Long, Herron, and Hobson all had two hits. Eudora hit one home run on the day, Schreiner hit a dinger in the sixth inning to finish off Jeff West by the 10-run rule. Junior Trenton Long pitched Eudora to victory. The right hander surrendered three runs on one hit over four and two-thirds innings, striking out six. Junior Jaykob Lemonds threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Lemonds recorded the last four outs to earn the save.
EHS FBLA - Mrs Brown
With COVID this school year, FBLA has not had the usual opportunities to complete some of the community service projects we have in the past or to attend leadership conferences.
So here are some activities we have been able to participate in for this school year.
Eudora Schools Foundation
FBLA students helped for the fifth or sixth year with the annual report mailing for ESF. FBLA students enjoy working two evenings with Shanda Hurla to help get the annual report ready for the mail.
Valentines
FBLA and Business Class Students made Valentines for our local nursing care facilities. We had enough Valentines for every resident to receive a homemade card on this special day.
State Leadership Contest
FBLA’s annual State Leadership Conference/Competition was held virtually this year. EHS completed our competition on Wednesday, March 24 in our amazing library.
Earth Day Competition
Beginning April 1, FBLA will be holding a class competition to see which class can bring in the most plastic grocery bags. The competition will go until April 15, and the winning class will receive ice cream during Cardinal Time on Earth Day, April 22. Once the bags are collected, they will be delivered to Eudora 4-H Club, so with the help of former Eudora Elementary teacher Becky Topil they can make plarn balls and hand crochet sleeping mats for shelters in Lawrence.

The ESF's Cardinals Care Fund was created to meet the urgent, immediate, and basic necessities of Eudora students, to ensure that the student's physical, social and emotional needs do not stand in the way of their success in school. This program helps fill needs unmet by any other source. If you or you know of someone that has a need, please reach out to your student's school.
ESF administers financial assistance for emergency needs such as food, clothing, medical, transportation, utility, and housing. Of course, some requests are unique and fall into no specific category. Please note, this is an emergency fund and money is limited.
