New Afternoon Traffic Procedures

Parents: Please see the bullet points below regarding the upcoming traffic pattern change at LHS. Both district and campus officials have worked with local governmental agencies in an effort to evaluate and adjust processes to help create a safe environment for drivers in and around Lovejoy High School. In addition to these initial changes, please know we will continue to collaborate with our local partners in an ongoing effort to promote driver safety at our campus. This change will begin starting Tuesday, September 5th.

Changes

  • The west entrance of LHS will be shut down beginning at 3:50 p.m. After 3:50 p.m., parents can no longer use the west entrance to enter into the pickup line.
  • All parents entering the pick-up line should enter through the center entrance of LHS, and should follow the directional signage, ropes and cones.
  • The front of LHS should not be used to pick up your student. Students must be picked up at the back of LHS in the pickup area. (Note: The front rope line is used to move parents off of Estates and onto LHS property. This ensures that no one is staging on Estates or the shoulders of Estates. Parents should not use this staging area as an opportunity to pick up their student and leave out of the front center lot. Again, this is simply a designated staging area to get parents off of Estates and into the pickup line that goes to the back of LHS.
  • Students and parents that exit on the west side of LHS must turn right onto Estates. There will no longer be a turn lane to make a left hand turn out of LHS. If students and parents desire to go east (left) on Estates when leaving LHS, they should exit the parking lots on the east side of the campus.
  • Please note, we will continue to only have one way traffic at the back of the school at student dismissal. This change began at the beginning of the school year and is working well.
  • Lastly, the Texas Department of Transportation has agreed to reduce the school zone speed limit in front of Lovejoy High School to 35 MPH.

Why the changes

  • By using the center entrance when entering the pickup line, vehicle staging on Estates will be eliminated.
  • By eliminating vehicle staging on Estates, student drivers exiting LHS will have more visibility when making the right turn.
  • By forcing a right turn only from the west exit, student drivers will not have to contend with east bound traffic.

Thank you for your support and attention to this change. Safety is of the utmost importance to Lovejoy ISD and Lovejoy High School. We look forward to the positive impact this change will have on both student safety and our afternoon dismissal procedures. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Michael_Montague@Lovejoyisd.net (Associate), Fernando_Ocampo@Lovejoyisd.net (Asst. Principal), or Travis_Zambiasi@Lovejoyisd.net (Principal).

The Lovejoy Green Team is implementing a new recycling program beginning on Leopard Friday: Sept. 8th at Leopard Stadium. There are an estimated 4000 bottles at every varsity home football game that have been going to the landfill but they can be recycled. The Lovejoy Green Team receives no funding from Lovejoy ISD and we need your help to buy bins for fields, courts and gyms.

Please consider donating to sponsor-a-bin or donate towards the purchase of a bin. Thank you for helping to make Lovejoy Cleaner and Greener. 100% of donations directly support Green Team programs and your donation is tax deductible.
