Tuesday, December 15 10:05 Holiday Shop / Phys. Ed class (Schedule change - have gym shoes)

This Week we're learning:

Writing Workshop - This week we continue our work on opinion writing and essays. We are learning about thesis statements and backing up our opinions with reasons and evidence.

Literacy - We are finishing our class novel Sarah, Plain and Tall this week. Different groups will be sharing the book in a variety of ways. We'll be using the story to work on our prediction skills, as well as inference skills, character development, and vocabulary development. We'll be on a search for figurative language, especially similes! Please remember that AR goals are due by December 22! Please make sure that your child is reading at home every night.

Mathematics - We continue to work with fractions and mixed numbers. We're working with improper fractions and mixed numbers. MIGHTY MULTIPLIERS continues and we have three Mighty Multipliers as of Friday, 12/11! Many of us are making good progress. Practice those multiplication facts every night for 5-10 minutes and you too can be a MIGHTY MULTIPLIER!

Science- This week we'll be doing an integrated math/science project involving physical change, conservation of mass, and area. Oh, and by the's going to be a lot of fun too!

You are your child's first and greatest teacher!

Home Hero Connection

Math - 5-10 minutes nightly of basic multiplication fact practice (flashcards, verbal, computer games, etc.) will be a huge help as we work on multiplying and dividing larger numbers.

Reading - 20 minutes nightly reading of current AR book. Let your child share what they're reading with you. We should be 75% to goal.

With the upcoming holiday season, there is increased stress about many different things. If there is something the school or I can do to help, please contact me. There will be regular homework assignments this upcoming week but please know that there will be no schoolwork over the holiday break. My hope is that your holiday break is filled with family and fun! There are lots of great holiday reads out there - start a tradition of reading a holiday story out loud in your family. We're never too old to be read to!!! Some great suggestions are: "Twas the Night Before Christmas", "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever", and "A Christmas Carol".
