Co-Presidents' Update

McKinley PTO's first art auction is well underway! Each K5-5th Grade classroom at McKinley has worked with Mrs. Leigh to produce a classroom masterpiece. These masterpieces will be available to all McKinley families to bid on at the following site: www.32auctions.com/mckinleyartauction


More information on the auction can be found below. We have currently raised $751 dollars through the auction. There are still 7 classrooms that do not have a bid. If you have a child in Mrs. Setzke, Mrs. Loechler, Mrs. Klingforth/Mrs. Petri, Mrs. Callahan/Mrs. Wessing, Mrs. Lawinger, Mrs. Sherry Brown, or Mrs. Carus, class please consider bidding on the artwork. Don't forget the artwork is displayed between Mrs. Simek and Ms. Mottet's classrooms. Help us find all these masterpieces a new home!


Please note the PBIS team added a new Spirit Day to the Calendar. Thursday, May 26th is now Patriotic Day. Please have your students dress in patriotic colors.

Art Auction Happening Now!

To further fund McKinley’s amazing composting program, we are hosting an online art auction compromised of 18 pieces of art, one made by each classroom of K5 through 5th graders.


The proceeds from this auction will help finish funding next year’s composting program and future composting initiatives. Through this separate fundraising, the PTO can fund the composting program at McKinley without tapping into our general fund for First Stage field trips, High Interest Day, teacher and staff appreciation, Family Fun Night, school dance, and more.


To see the amazing artwork available for purchase, check it out in person on display in the first floor hallways of McKinley. The artwork is located between Ms. Mottet’s and Mrs. Simek’s classrooms. Photographs and dimensions are also available on the online auction site.

End Of The Year Art Request

Mrs. Leigh would like parents of K5-5th grade students to send in a larger plastic bag with their name on it. Artwork will be send home in these bags. Please send your bags in by Tuesday, May 31st.

Graphic Design Skills Needed

The PBIS team is looking to add more permanent signs throughout McKinley. They are in need of volunteer services to design signs with the McKinley Message. They have a plan, they just need someone to graphically make it happen. If you can offer an hour or two of graphic assistance please email us at tosamckinlypto@gmail.com

Bags for Art

It's that time of the year again... all K5 through 5th grade students need to bring in a large plastic bag (garbage bags are great!) with their name on it. Students should bring these bags to art class by May 31, and completed artwork will be sent home in them in June.

Eagle Scout Project Help Needed

My name is Spencer Johnson and I am doing my Eagle Scout project for Boy Scouts in the Peacegarden. I will be working in the Peacegarden on Sunday, May 15 and Wednesday, May 18 and would love some assistance from the McKinley community! If you are available on one or both of these days and would like to help, please contact me so that I can provide you with details.

Make Your Mark on McKinley

The McKinley PTO is excited to announce the beginning of the Brick Drive. In conjunction with the district, the PTO is looking to remedy the muddy areas outside of the 90th street doors. We are selling engraveable bricks that will be interspersed with other bricks and installed to alleviate the muddy areas. The more bricks we sell the less mud there will be.


The bricks are available in two sizes, 4x8 ($27) and 8x8 ($52). Symbols can be added to the bricks for an additional $5.00 charge.


There are numerous reasons to purchase bricks:

Reducing Sugar In The Classroom

McKinley Mom Amber Thompson is looking to reduce the amount of sugar intake in the classrooms. If you are interested in discussing the topic please email Amber at ambershereethompson@gmail.com

Pop Tab Recycling

It's time to bring in any pop tabs (the little metal pieces on top of alumunim beverage cans)! Girls from 5th grade Girl Scout Troop 3473 will be bringing McKinley's collected can tabs to the Ronald McDonald House Tab Toss Day on May 21. The pop tabs are purchased by United Milwaukee Scrap, and the money earned goes back to the Ronald McDonald House to help support their amazing programs. The pop tab collection program has generated nearly $296,000 since its inception in 2000! Pop tabs can be dropped off in the donation bin underneath the PTO bulletin board near the school office.

Labels for Education - Turn Your Labels In By June 1st.

In the past few years participation in Labels for Education® has declined and as a result, Campbell has come to the very difficult decision to wind down the LFE program.


The program will continue exactly as is for the remainder of the 2015-2016 LFE program year. There will be changes for next year’s program starting August 1, 2016. As the Coordinator for our school, my goal is to ensure that we maximize our opportunities to earn points before the conclusion of the program. Continue to Clip and Submit UPCs and Beverage/Sauce Caps, as all participating products listed are still accepted through July 31, 2016. The deadline for schools to trade points for products is July 31, 2016.


Therefore, I ask that you please submit all your Labels for Education Beverage/Sauce Caps and UPCs by June 1, 2016. This will allow enough time to count, process and redeem the points for products for the school. Thank you for all of your help and for being a part of the LFE program. Please reach out with any questions on LFE program changes or timing.

Spring Box Top Competition

It’s time to send in your Box Tops! Keep clipping, ask friends and neighbors to help, and send in your neatly clipped Box Tops to your child’s teacher now until May 20th. The classroom that collects the most will win an ice cream party!

Come See Our Lost and Found

With all the craziness that surrounds the end of the school year, it's easy to forget about the lost and found! Please consider stopping by the bins by the cafeteria before June 9 to see if anything looks familiar! On the last day of school, the remaining items will be collected and eventually donated to a local organization. If your kiddo is missing something, please come take a look!
