The Book Fair is Coming Soon...
Did you LOVE going to the Book Fair as a child? If you answered YES then we would LOVE to have you volunteer to help out our first Book Fair!
The Book Fair is a great time to get to know Suwanee Elementary and the Media Center staff. We have fun setting up and decorating for the Book Fair, helping students make wish lists, helping students with shopping, and we even have fun packing it all away when it is over.
Please click below to access the volunteer sign-up. We can't wait to meet you!
Calling All Music Makers in 4th and 5th Grades!
This is a final reminder that ensembles have begun in the music room! Students who wish to be in an ensemble this year need to attend rehearsals next week to ensure their spaces are secured within the groups! All 4th and 5th graders are invited to participate in two open ensembles: Suwanee Showchoir and Suwanee Orff Ensemble!
Suwanee Orff Ensemble features students who love to sing and play instruments. This is a cool group that will sing and play xylophones, small hand percussion, tubano drums, and recorders for school concerts and in the Suwanee Community. I know these kids will rock! Suwanee Orff Ensemble meets on Tuesday mornings at 7:15 AM .
Suwanee Showchoir features students who love to sing and perform choreography. This is a fun group that will sing and perform movements to popular, contemporary, and patriotic music for school concerts and in the Suwanee community! Suwanee Showchoir meets on Wednesday mornings at 7:15 AM.
Students may begin arriving NO EARLIER than 7:05 AM. Please ensure you do not drop your child off before this time as staff members are not on duty to supervise your child!!! Students will meet in the music room for rehearsal, and then be dismissed from choir to their class (or breakfast) at 8:00 AM.
Focus on Focus: An Update from the Teachers
1st Grade: During ICE Time, first grade students have been working on an exciting 3-act task! We are trying to figure out which 12 coins are in the bank! The clues are... “12 coins in the bank, equals to one dollar, the first coin is a nickel, and the only coins in the bank are nickels, dimes, and quarters!”
2nd Grade: This week in 2nd grade FOCUS, we introduced and completed a 3-Act Math Task. This is a type of math task that poses a high interest, real world math problem, in which there is more than one avenue to reach the solution. Students worked in groups, collaboratively discussing and using strategies to solve the problem.
3rd Grade: This week third grade took rounding to the next level. Students solved and created their own rounding riddles and participated in a rounding Problem Based Lesson (PBL) to determine the best way to estimate cost to decorate a bedroom.
4th Grade: The fourth grade FOCUS group is working on addition and subtraction digits up to seven digits. Our focus is on analyzing real world problems using different strategies. Students continue to work on an activity in which they are expected to analyze a chart, determine which information to use, and use addition and subtraction strategies to complete. Students have worked well together and will continue this work into next week. Ask your child about R.A.C.E. and how it can be applied to math thinking when working with exemplars.
5th Grade: Using math strategies, research, and critical thinking, our 5th grade FOCUS students began their journey of planning a cost effective field trip. Through this project, students are learning to manage, create, and budget!

Safety and Security
All schools have safety and security plans. The plans are designed with the help of school security and support staff members, as well as local law enforcement, emergency management, and public health officials. Plans are reviewed and updated regularly. These plans include procedures to respond to critical incidents such as tornados, medical emergencies and criminal acts. All staff members are trained on procedures to handle issues related to safety and security.
