Tech Mex Tuesday

Now that school is underway, I would like to start Tech Mex Tuesday. At this time I'm thinking the off staff meeting weeks. I envision 30 minutes either once or twice a month. I'll offer chips and salsa so we can snack and learn. I want to make this a fun and engaging 30 minutes. I'm targeting a start date of Tuesday Sept 25th as the first one held at Soest from 3-3:30pm. You can come to one or both (or neither). These are not required, rather I'm providing an opportunity for those that want to come. If you are interested, let me know.

Unless there is something you would like, which I am open to, I'm going to start with Google Drive and Docs since we are starting to use that the most. I'd like to move to Google Forms as well for doing tests and quizzes. I would also like to take this time to share other possible relevant tech or app ideas as well like SeeSaw, Flipgrid and Wakelet.

I don't see this being a just me teaching time, rather about collaborative learning and giving you time to explore and learn by doing. I don't have all the answers but feel like I have some. Heidi also has done a great job with the Google products and can be a resource for anyone.

Parent-Teacher Conference Scheduling Change

I am exploring a change to how we schedule parent-teacher conferences starting this year. I am looking at using SignUp Genius so parents can go online and do it themselves. Ascension has used this free version for several years now and love it. Parents sign up online and as it gets close, the office person makes sure all have a time slot heading into parent-teacher conferences. Totally takes it out of your hands and frees you up to do other things. You can also use for field trip volunteer sign up, snack signup or whatever. Lots of school uses. If you want to explore on your own, here is the link.
Big picture

INPEC 2018 Conference

This year's INPEC Teacher's conference is going to be awesome. Keynote speakers Rick Wormeli and George Couros along with Kim Strobel and many others make this a conference where we will walk away with a ton of learning and new ideas. They have some new "ignite" sessions (10 minutes) for quick learning and extended "focus" sessions (30 minutes) as well. Make sure to download the Attendify app for your device and get the schedule etc. You can also go the the website by clicking here for conference brochure and more.

Speaking of schedules, the Indiana District is recognizing Jon Mielke at the conference and will be hosting a reception prior to the dinner hour. We'll want to take that into account as we decide our own dinner plans. I am looking forward to having dinner as a faculty that night. It is one of the highlights for me at least.

Hotel and registration are already taken care of for this conference. One person in each hotel room will need to pay for their room. EACS will not reimburse the school for these, only individuals. Keep detailed receipts for food etc and track your mileage (paid @ .38/mile this year) if you are the one driving. I'll get you the needed paperwork and info in October.
