From The Desk Of Mrs. Doyle
Dear Families,
On Monday, I will be sending out the annual Parent Placement letter. This gives families the opportunity to share information that teachers and staff may not know and that is important for us to consider as we make classroom placement decisions for the next school year. There is no requirement to fill out this online form. Please trust that teachers have remarkable knowledge about each of their students and their insights weigh heavily on the placement decisions.
Here are some helpful tips that would make the entire process run more smoothly for us.
Please keep in mind that we do not take teacher requests. I read all submitted parent forms prior to sharing them with the placement team and I remove any teacher requests in advance. If you made a request verbally to the teacher, I direct them to take that out of consideration during placement deliberations to maintain a fair process for all.
Likewise, we do not take friend requests. These are also not forwarded to the placement team. Teachers really do know your children well and do know who they enjoy being around. We are invested in making sure everyone has a peer they like learning with in their classroom. It may not be their best friend; sometimes “besties” are not the most ideal classmates, but there will be good learning partners for everyone.
If there is a significant issue between two children, a parent may ask for the students to be separated the following year. We do accept these requests, but please limit your request to 1 student. If that’s not possible due to the circumstances, please prioritize the few names on the placement form. We may ask for more information about this request, if needed.
If you dis-request a student one year, it does not mean that we will forever keep these two children apart. If the problem persists, you must make the request each year.
You may dis-request a teacher if one of your children has already had that teacher. In other words, if your older son had Teacher A and you were dissatisfied for some reason, you may dis-request that teacher for the younger daughter going into that grade level. You cannot dis-request a teacher with whom you’ve had no direct experience in your family. If you dis-request a teacher, I share that information only with the current classroom teacher, not the entire placement team.
I promise you that we spend considerable time working through class placement and we take this responsibility very seriously. The teams consist of the classroom teachers, as well as members of guidance, special education, administration, and specialists. We are invested in making the best placement decisions for ALL students regardless of whether or not you complete a form.
Thank you for your support and trusting us in this process.
Warmly,
Annette Doyle

Summer Reading Book Fair
The PTO would like to bring back the Spring Book Fair. It is smaller than the fall book fair, focuses on supporting summer reading, is a fundraiser for the library, and the school librarian, Barb Gogan, has volunteered to coordinate it!
In order to schedule it we need some volunteers who would be willing to help during library times.
If you can help, please email barbara_gogan@sudbury.k12.ma.us --this week if possible!
