Reading Essentials
Teaching reading according to research and learning theory
Three Core Practices
- Engage learners' hearts and minds: Connect with students through stories
- Rely on an Optimal Learning Model (OLM): A learning model to ensure success for the learner at every stage of learning
- Focus on what's most important for the learner: Be responsive to learners, notice and respond to their strengths as well as their weaknesses, even when the curriculum is mandated
The Optimal Learning Model - effective and sufficient demonstrations and shared experiences by an expert enable the learner to successfully "try and apply" what has previously been taught
