More classrooms, teachers for Central Visayas

CEBU CITY, May 23 (PIA) -- The public school system in Region 7 is set to get a boost after the Department of Education (DepEd) announced the construction of additional classrooms and opening of new teacher items in the region.
DepEd-7 Regional Director Dr. Carmelita Dulangon in a recent Kapihan forum disclosed that new classrooms are now being built in several public schools region-wide.
'No removal of shoes policy' now implemented at Mactan-Cebu Airport

CEBU CITY, May 23 (PIA) -- Mactan Cebu International Airport has adopted a “No Removal Of Shoes Policy” for passengers, except in four instances, effective immediately.
MCIA Authority General Manager Engr. Nigel Paul recently posted on his Facebook account an announcement on the adoption of the Policy on Non-Removal of Shoes based on a Memorandum Circular followed by the Office of Transportations Security (OTS) issued March 4 and made effective May 15, 2013.
Thousands to join first Cebu Run for the Rivers Marathon

CEBU CITY, May 28 (PIA) -- Around 3,800 runners in Cebu are expected to join the first Cebu Run for the Rivers Marathon on June 2.
The marathon will highlight the rehabilitation of the Mahiga River system, one of the five river systems in Cebu being rehabilitated by the local government by improving its water quality.
The run aims to raise awareness on the importance of integrated water resources management and solid waste management and boost the collaboration and coordination towards a sustainable river systems management.
Brigada Eskwela hopes for more volunteers this year

CEBU CITY, May 23 (PIA) -- Department of Education-7 officials remain positive there will be more volunteers for the remaining days of Brigada Eskwela.
In the recent Kapihan sa PIA-Cebu, DepEd-7 Regional Director Dr. Carmelita Dulangon said they remain hopeful that like in the past years, volunteers for Brigada Eskwela will increase.
According to Director Dulangon, there is a good turn-out of volunteers in majority of the schools under the 19 schools divisions of Central Visayas.

CEBU CITY, May 28 (PIA) -- The Philippine flag is a symbol of the nation’s independence and sovereignty.
This was the message given by Cultural and Historical Affairs Commissioner Arsenio Pacana during his speech at the Cebu City Hall’s commemoration of the 115th National Flag Day today.
The activity was led by the Cebu City government and attended by Cebu City Hall workers, guests, and visitors at Plaza Sugbu.

CEBU CITY, May 17 (PIA)-- Atty. Hilario "Junjun" Davide III of the Liberal Party, was proclaimed Governor of Cebu at 3:20 p.m. May 17, ending the almost two decade hold of the Garcia's of the Cebu Provincial Capitol.
He garnered 654,054 votes, 163,906 votes higher than 3rd District Congressman Pablo John Garcia's 490,148 votes of United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) 1 Cebu.

CEBU CITY, May 21 (PIA)-- All is set for the holding of Cebu City’s “Gabii sa Kabilin” – a Heritage Tour at Night on May 31.
In a statement sent by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation (RAFI), all is set for this year’s “Gabii sa Kabilin” with all participating units and agencies.
Safety training for NegOr engineers held in Cebu

CEBU CITY, May 29 (PIA) -- A training on Construction Safety and Health for Site Safety Officers was organized recently by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Field Office 7 at Elizabeth Hotel, this city.
The training was attended by DSWD’s 22 engineers from the different towns of Negros Oriental.
The activity was in support to the ongoing implementation of various small-scale infrastructure projects undertaken by the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) in said province.
DSWD trains development workers in NegOr

CEBU CITY, May 28 (PIA) -- Over 85 development workers from Negros Oriental towns attended the gender and development (GAD) sensitivity training of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-7 at Hotel Essencia in Dumaguete City recently.
Among the participants were community facilitators, social engineers and area coordinators who have direct stake in the management of the on-going construction of various community projects of the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan – Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS).
Cebu NGO to hold Mind-Share session on K-12 implementation

CEBU CITY, May 29 (PIA) -- The Coalition for Better Education (CBE) will hold a Mind Share Session on May 31 to discuss the preparations done by the national government in preparing public schools for the second phase implementation of K to 12 program.
Guests during the forum are officials from the regional offices of the Department of Education (DepEd), Technical Eduation Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) to specifically tackle how ready are the schools for K to 12.
