The Rough Hollow Rattler

A Note from Mrs. Frankhouser
I enjoyed meeting WCHE parents at their general PTO meeting on February 26th. I will be at Serene Hills Elementary on Thursday March 5 to meet parents from 8-9am in the cafeteria. It is nice to put faces with names! I have had the opportunity to meet parents and students over the last few weeks, and the outpouring of support and excitement is infectious!
RHE Community Event MAY 2nd
When? May 2nd from 12-3pm

Q & A with Mrs. Frankhouser
Questions have come up over the past few weeks, and I thought it would be helpful if I answered them for everyone.
Question: Will RHE have a preK Program?
Answer: No. RHE will not have a preK program. SHE, LPE, and LTE house the District's preK program.
Question: Is there a plan to widen Bee Creek Road in front of RHE?
Answer: The county has a long term plan to widen the road, but the project will not be completed prior to school starting. A turn lane on Bee Creek Road is slated to be completed before the beginning of school. We will also have a road behind the school. According to the Rough Hollow developer, that road will be ready in May.

Question: When and where do we register incoming kindergartners?
Answer: Round-Up is March 25th and Rough Hollow Elementary Kindergartners will register where they are currently zoned to attend. If you are currently zoned West Cypress Hills Elementary, you will go there for Round-Up. If you are currently zoned Serene Hills Elementary, you will go there.
Please click here or the link below for detailed information on Kindergarten and District PreK registration.
Question: How are we planning for a smooth transition for learning from this year to next?
Answer: We have systems for transfer of information and student need that will flow from current teachers to new teachers. Mrs. Beninga (Principal at WCHE), Mrs. Nederveld (principal at SHE) and I (Mrs. Frankhouser, principal at RHE) have already begun planning for the exchange of student information. We will be organizing collaborative meetings between ourselves, between our assistant principals, between counselors, between specialists, between special education teachers to ensure that student needs are considered in all class placements and to ensure that all information is appropriately communicated.
Additionally, district curriculum guides and curriculum support as well as collaboration between groups (GT, Special Education, Reading Specialists, ESL support) will ensure that we are on track.
Question: When will we know what teachers are moving to RHE?
Answer: I am currently interviewing and working on securing all staff. Because WCHE and SHE are losing students, some of the teachers from each of those campuses will be joining us at RHE! There will also be teachers from other LTISD schools or from outside the district. I will be able to inform staff of their new positions by the end of April. Watch for announcements in the May version of The Rough Hollow Rattler. Hiring may continue throughout the summer based on need, and I will continue to introduce new staff through the newsletter.
Question: Will the playground have mulch or rubber pieces?
Answer: Neither. Our playground will have turf like the high school and middle school football fields.
Question: When will we be able to go inside the school?
Answer: Plan on coming in at Meet the Teacher on August 18th. Stay tuned for details!
Question: How will we buy school supplies?
Answer: I will send out a link for school supplies in April or May and you can buy prepackaged grade level kits online that will be delivered to your home. You bring them with you to Meet the Teacher. You are always welcome to buy your school supplies a la cart at local stores. Lists will be provided.
Question: When will an assistant principal be selected?
Answer: Assistant principal interviews will happen according to the same timeline for teachers.
Question: Will there be a kindergarten play date? When will kindergarten assessments be done?
Answer: A parent shared with me that there is already a kindergarten Facebook group called RHE - Class of 2033, and they are already organizing play dates. Otherwise, stay tuned for more information regarding a Kindergarten Play Date in the summer.
Kindergarten assessments will be conducted the week before school starts, and we will schedule specific times for our kindergartners.
Question: What are our school colors?
Answer: Coming soon! Did you weigh in? If not, click here and let us know what you think.
