Eduardo Alvarez was born on January 30, 1990. As of now, Eduardo is 24 years old. Eduardo grew up in Miami, FL and began ice speed skating at the age of 7. Now, he is a short track speed skater. Also, In the 2014 Olympic Trials, he came in second place in the 500 meters race, came in second place in the 1500 meters race, and came in third place in the 1000 meters race. What Is Speed Skating??!!

Speed Skating is a competitive form of ice skating in which the competitors race each other in traveling a certain distance on skates. Two Things To Know About Short Track Speed Skating!

1) Speed skating has been on the Olympic program since the first Winter Games in 1924!

2) Speed skating is held on a 400-meter oval at distances ranging from 500 to 10,000 meters, with two skaters going at a time but really racing against the clock.

5 Rules About Speed Skating!

1. The distances skated are determined by the level of the skaters in a division.

2. Skaters' numbers must be on both sides of the helmet.

3. All protective gear must be on and bare skin covered or a skater will be disqualified or barred from skating in the race.

4. Two false starts and a skater is disqualified.

5. If a skater is knocked down by another skater at the start (before the first apex block), they will usually call the start back.
