Highview Happenings

From the Principal's Desk...
Dear Highview Families,
Happy Friday! Thank you to our parents and guardians who attended our Parent-Teacher Conferences on Thursday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 21. Our teachers enjoyed meeting with families to discuss the progress each student has made since September.
Teachers have been hard at work to update report cards for Marking Period 2 for each individual student. The online report card portal will open on Wednesday, March 29. Additionally, you will receive a hardcopy of your child's report card, which will come home in his/her backpack. Please be sure to review all contents within the report card envelope. If you have questions about your child's report card, please contact your child's teacher(s).
On Monday, our third-grade students participated in a virtual STEM field trip with the Liberty Science Center. They focused on using Tinkercad to create 3-Dimensional models. The students were highly engaged and very excited to participate in this experience.
Our first group of fourth-grade classes took their trip to the Liberty Science Center today. The rest of our fourth-grade classes will attend next Friday, March 31. Thank you to Ms. Molly O'Riordan, our STEM Teacher, for organizing these memorable experiences for our Highview Knights.
Tonight is the culminating celebration for our district Art Show. It will take place in the East Court at the Palisades Center Mall from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Please come out to see the amazing work our incredible artists created with help from their talented teachers!
As a reminder, we continue to take the safety and security of our students and staff seriously. Please know that if you plan to visit Highview School to attend a meeting or pickup your child, you will need to be prepared to present an ID to the security guard and/or main office staff. Our faculty, staff, and students appreciate your partnership in these important safety matters.
I hope you and your loved ones have a relaxing, restful weekend!
Sincerely,
Matthew Lutz
Principal

State Testing
State testing is upon us! We will administer the New York State Assessments for both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics. The testing days are included below.
- English Language Arts – Wednesday, April 19 and Thursday, April 20
- Mathematics – Tuesday, May 2 and Wednesday, May 3
On Monday, we sent a letter home to families outlining the state assessment dates. You can access the letter by clicking the link below.
Arrival/Dismissal Procedures
Please click the link below to access our Arrival/Dismissal Procedures. It is important that we work together to follow these protocols in order to ensure an efficient, safe process for both students and staff. As a reminder, there are no U-turns permitted on Highview Avenue. If you drive your child to school and arrive after 8:45 a.m., you must park at Grace Baptist Church and walk your child to school. It is unsafe to drop off students in the crosswalk on Highview Avenue while buses are unloading. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Bus Safety
- Be a good listener.
- Use a quiet voice.
- Stay seated at all times.
Please review these rules with your child and remind them that riding the bus is a privilege, not a right. We need to work together to ensure our students experience a safe and orderly bus ride to and from school. Please note that undesirable or unsafe behavior could result in a loss of bus privileges as determined by the Principal or Assistant Principal. We appreciate your partnership.
