INQUIRY
Inquiry is a guided study period where students are supported in the completion of school work. Students in Inquiry will create a daily work plan and choose from these learning options:
- Complete assignments,
- Work on upcoming assigned projects, or
- Read from books (print or online).
In the "good old days" we had Silent Reading and Study Hall classes. These class periods were underutilized by many students. Students chose to zone out or fiddle online instead of complete school activities. This will not be the case in 2015-2016. We'll have more adult supervision and support in Inquiry!
We are also planning other skill development activities to be added to the Inquiry options. One such plan is to offer an independent 'keyboarding' program where students work independently with a mobile keyboard! Other learning tasks may also be added during the year including independent study projects that students propose to their supervisors!
We are excited about Inquiry, the pursuit of knowledge! Students that are not in Band or Choir will have Inquiry each morning. All students will have an Inquiry period opposite of their Art or PE classes as well. Check your schedule and find your INQ sessions today!
CANVAS
Canvas will act like My Big Campus. Teachers will use Canvas to post content, assignments, and discussion. Parents can create a Canvas Parent Account which will allow mobile device access to teacher content, student assignments, completed student work, and student discussion posts. Canvas is a well-established company and it is used by several colleges and universities including IU, Purdue, and Harvard! Students will get Canvas training when school starts! Watch for Canvas Parent Portal information soon!

NEW EPIC Support Program
Last year, students with incomplete assignments were required to report to the EPIC room during Silent Reading, lunch, and Connect. This year, we are taking EPIC support TO students in INQuiry! After the three week mark in any grading period, any student with a failing grade will be receive additional monitoring during all INQuiry classes for a week. This monitoring will include student creation of a work plan and the student showing completed work to the EPIC supervisor. The EPIC supervisor will then provide additional assistance to the student getting 'caught up.'
Our EPIC change will allow us to maximize support time, increase adult attention to students in need, and give students back their lunch times! We will not have EPIC support during lunch periods this year. Students will get more information about EPIC as we start the school year!
