Principal's Welcome
As many of you are aware, we are beginning the school year in Distance Learning! This first Weekly Update has important links and information to getting started! Our school day starts everyday with students checking in at 8:30 in a google meeting space with their Foundations teacher. This first 15 minutes of the day is to ensure students are aware of the schedule for the day, reminding them to take attendance and socially connecting!
Students should use the google meet platform and use the meeting code convention: rms+first four letters of teacher last name. ex. Ms. Vibar would be rmsviba. The first day of school, Tuesday, September 8 follows the Tuesday A day schedule which is provided in this newsletter. Students will have Periods 4, 5, 6 & 7 on the first day of school.
Your student can see their schedule on campus and will be able to see coursework on Tuesday on Schoology. During the first two weeks of school, teachers will be spending time getting to know students and teaching distance learning routines and rituals for using Schoology and apps on their iPads.
We recognize that Distance Learning is not an ideal way to begin the school year and ask that you are reaching out to us with questions and sharing issues you are experiencing. We are here to partner with you in the education of your student.

ATHLETICS UPDATE:
Please see the district update below regarding Middle School Sports.
SPPS RESPONSE REGARDING MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS
Saint Paul Public Schools has had to make several difficult decisions about what programs we are able to safely offer this fall during a continuing COVID-19 pandemic. One of those decisions was around middle school sports. Several challenges, including staff availability, transportation, student safety and participation levels in middle school sports, make SPPS unable to offer any middle school sports this fall.
It is also possible that we will not be able to offer middle school sports if and when SPPS transitions to a hybrid learning model, due to the same challenges listed above. SPPS will reassess this decision each season to determine if we are able to offer middle school sports this winter or spring.
We understand how hard this decision may be on our middle school students and families, and hope to be able to offer extracurricular activities as soon as it is possible for us to do so. Thank you for your support of SPPS and your students. If you have additional questions, please contact your school’s athletic director.
Supporting our Athletes: As the Athletic Director I want to provide an opportunity for our student athletes to connect with each other while we are distance learning. During our Friday student group opportunities, I will be offering a Google Meets for our student athletes. Updates with a Google Meets code will go out to all of the Ramsey students via Schoology on Friday mornings! Please encourage your student athlete to attend these Google Meets if they are interested in connecting and participating with other student athletes at Ramsey. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Email: Alicia.Ekegren@spps.org
