Kingsley Connection

August 12th, 2022

Dear Kingsley families,

The countdown to school is on! The Kingsley staff is making final preparations for your students to return for the first full day of school on Thursday, August 25th.

We look forward to seeing you at our Meet and Greet school supply drop-off on Tuesday, August 23rd, from 2:45-3:30pm. Be sure to also stop by the PTA Ice Cream Social on the intermediate playground from 3:00-5:00pm.

Today's Kingsley Connection contains important information about procedures, schedules, and more. We recommend you bookmark this newsletter to refer back to it throughout the year.

Finally, we invite you to follow us on Twitter (links below). This is one of the many ways to stay in touch with events happening at Kingsley.

We are excited to begin our 2022-2023 journey with you and your children.

Chuck Brewster (Principal) & Eleni Gajewski (Assistant Principal)

When will I know my child's teacher assignment?

This is always an exciting day for students!

Teacher assignments will be finalized and posted in PowerSchool on Monday, August 15 at 12:00pm. Any information you view prior to that time and date is not official, and may still be subject to change as schedules are finalized. We will send a reminder message on August 15th at 12:00pm which will include directions on how to access the schedules in the parent portal. Please note that each school will have a unique time when student schedule viewing is enabled. Your child’s schedule will not be available before this time. This is to minimize the number of users logging onto PowerSchool’s servers at any given time.

In order to ensure view your child’s schedule, you will need to be able to log into your secure PowerSchool Parent Portal Account. Families can navigate the portal by visiting dg58.powerschool.com and signing in with their username and password. Information about creating a portal account can be found here. If you need assistance, please contact our school office (630) 719-5850 which can help you get signed in.

Will there be an opportunity meet the teacher and drop off school supplies before the first day of school?

Students in grades K-6 can come for supply drop-off on Tuesday, August 23rd from 2:45pm - 3:30pm

Teachers will still be setting up their rooms and preparing for the first day of school. While the staff is excited to see their students, they will not be able to conference individually with families during this time. If your child has special needs or accommodations, your child's teacher will have that information ahead of time.

Families will enter and exit his/her grade level hallway arrival door. Families who have registration or medical papers may bring them to the main office.

All families are expected to wrap up school supply drop-off by 3:30pm and head to the Kingsley School Ice Cream Social located on the intermediate playground (in the back of school), from 3:00pm-5:00pm.

TRANSPORTATION INFORMATION

For families who qualified, the signup for bus transportation has closed. Please contact the Kingsley office with your request. Any changes requested now will go into effect on Sept. 6th. If you have already contacted the district to sign up, you do not need to do anything further.

We anticipate the routes to be finalized by August 18th (the week before school).

Music In DG58

We are excited to launch a new year in band and orchestra and begin making music together again! The DG58 instrumental music teachers have had a wonderful time the past few weeks working with students during our summer music program! Our beginning band and orchestra students are well on their way after spending some time learning the basics of their instruments, while our returning members had a chance to hone their skills in an ensemble setting.

During the school year, the instrumental music students will participate in one weekly pull-out lesson at their school. These lessons will begin at the elementary schools the week of Sept. 12. Please watch your email for a lesson and after-school rehearsal schedules for your building. In the fall, students will also begin participating in a once-weekly after-school rehearsal to prepare full ensemble music to play at their Winter and Spring concerts. We can’t wait to see the growth and progress our students will continue to make as the school year continues!
