PTA Meeting Next Week

All parents, teachers, and staff are invited to attend the PTA on Tuesday, January 14, at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria. Come watch the award-winning LRES Robotics team give a brief skit and an actual robot run.


School News

Look for your child’s 1st Semester Report Card in this week’s Courier!


Welcome new Laurel Ridge staff member Ms. Sharon Bolds! Ms. Bolds has a wealth of experience as well as being Gifted and ESOL Certified. The 5th grade enrollment has continued to grow so she will be joining Ms. Fink, Mr. Norton, and Ms. Shafe on the 5th Grade Team. 5th grade students rotate and will see all three teachers daily. You can meet Ms. Bolds on Tuesday, January 14. She’ll be available from 6:30 pm - 7 pm prior to the monthly PTA meeting.


Robotics

Our Robotics Club will compete at the Super Regionals Competition this Saturday at Clayton State University in the University Center start at 8:30 am. Good luck, team!


Field Trips and Cultural Arts

Your PTA Committees continue to work on your behalf in a variety of ways. One such committee is the PTA Field Trip & Cultural Arts Committee which in collaboration with LRE staff has scheduled excursions for LRES students. The remaining grade level field trips are listed below and the first assembly program takes place Wednesday, January 29, 2014. The $20.00 fee requested via Permission Slips pays for


  • two 45 minute assembly programs featuring performing artists from Young Audiences featuring character development programs aligned with 2013-2014 school themes of Treat Others Right, Make Smart Decisions, and Maximize Your Potential.
  • one high quality field trip experience inclusive of entrance fee and transportation costs. Each trip will be specifically chosen to align with core curriculum standards and enhance grade level studies


PreK – February 28

Center for Puppetry Arts – Weather Rocks

Kindergarten – March 6

Alliance Theatre – Shrek the Musical

First Grade – February 27 (Please note the date change.)

Chattahoochee Nature Preserve – The Basic Needs of Plants & Animals

Chick-fil-A Biscuits

We will be selling Chick-fil-A biscuits for $2.75 at drop-off on Friday, January 17. Please bring exact change! Please be aware that due to school nutrition guidelines, biscuits cannot be purchased and sent into the school with students.
