Meet Lisa Rowe, our new School Psychologist:
My door is always open. Prior to moving to NC, just last week, I lived "on the frontier" (that's literally what they called it) in New Mexico for 3 years. I was a rancher and took care of my special needs son. We've raised pigs, made cheeses and brewed our own beer. Our lives "on the Frontier", where the school district had a mere 42 kiddos PK-12 (true!) was vastly different than my 13 years as a School Psychologist with the School District of Palm Beach County, which is the 9th largest school district in the country. And before that I was a teacher; being a teacher was the most difficult job I have ever had (and I was an advertising executive before I was a teacher). In between ranching, making cheese and caring for my son, I spent a considerable amount of time in Colorado learning about MTSS, School Needs assessments, threat assessments, the wrap around model, and the PREPare model, which stems from the unfortunate shooting that have occurred on school campuses over the last decade. I have been trained by FEMA to respond in the event of a crisis in the school and community. I hope to bring this knowledge to Buncombe County schools. I realize the MTSS model is different from what you are use to (just test, test, test), but the field of School Psychology has changed greatly over the last few years. I hope I can bring the full breadth of my knowledge and experience to the table and that we can work together to better the lives of our students, families and community. I am thrilled to be a part of the Fairview Elementary family.
News You Can Use:
All staff are encouraged to register for our new Title 1 Parent Involvement program called "Bringing Up". It will automatically send texts and/or emails to you 2-3 times each week with interesting topics to "Bring up" with students. Register online at the following link: http://bringingup.com/register. The program will begin the week of September 26. Homeroom teachers will receive an email from Debbie Wood to forward to parents to encourage them to sign up.
A few reminders for teachers:
- Please make sure a copy of your schedule has been posted outside your classroom door. If you need a clear plastic sleeve, please let Mrs. Reed know.
- Please make sure you have turned in a one-page copy of your schedule to the office with your name and cell phone number written at the top.
- Please begin posting Learning Targets (aka "I Can Statements") for all subjects in your classroom. Make sure to begin and end each lesson by referring to these targets.
- Great job posting work outside your classroom with the accompanying learning target! Keep it up.
Thanks for two amazing Open House events!
