Wakelet is great tool for creating, curating, and sharing web content. It is an easy way to collect and organize articles, videos, tweets and more in an attractive format. It is available as an app or an add-on, so it can be used on your iPad or Laptop.

Using Wakelet in the Classroom for Curation and Research

This month's Canvas example spotlight is . . .

Embedding Digital Tools in an Assignment/Media Recording Submission: Symbaloo: First Grade Reading.

Notice how the teacher created this assignment using an embedded Symbaloo. Students choose a book, then must record themselves reading the book. Here is what it looks like from the student perspective.

1. Canvas Commons Preview: This is EXCITING. Now, when you visit the Canvas Commons, you can preview a resource between importing into a Canvas course. Watch this video demonstrating how the Preview feature works.
   
   
2. Link Validator: If you have never used the Link Validator from the Course Settings, what are you waiting for. Clicking the Link Validator will provide an exhaustive search of your course for broken links. A Time Savor. In this update, the Link Validator received a face-lift. Before, when a validation of content links ran, it generate a "drab" list of page, assignment, etc. titles. But now, the validation results have a different look.
   
   
3. Flickr Images to be Removed: Canvas utilizes Flicker in image searches. On February 5, 2019, Flicker will remove millions of images from the Canvas search. The only images to be affected are those that are not licensed under Creative Commons. The good news is that no images will be affected when trying to import an image from Flickr inside the Rich Content Editor for all of those images are licensed under Creative Commons. However, if you use the Flickr search for creating Dashboard course cards, those images might be affected since not all are licensed on Creative Commons. So, if your Course Card images disappears, you will know why. Immediate solution, just search from another image. Read the full announcement and the Canvas solution.

1. Canvas Palooza: There are two options. Explore the Virtual and F2F dates, topics, times, and locations. Register in Time Keeper for the virtual sessions (#508) and the Face-to-Face sessions (#506). Earn CEUs.
   
   
2. Growing with Canvas: Interested in building your capacity in Canvas and becoming a Canvas ninja? Then you can self-enroll in the Growing with Canvas professional learning experience. This learning experience is self--paced and along the ay you will submit activities and earn seven total badges. At the conclusion of Growing with Canvas, you can request a certificate of participation for 1.2 CEUs which can be used for DLC credit.
   
   
3. Canvas.Net: Canvas.Net is a catalog of professional learning covering a wide range of topics (content and curriculum, blended learning, to languages). Teachers and Administrators can search the entire catalog.
   
   
4. Canvas Live: Canvas Live is a portal of online learning searchable by categories (lower right) such as student engagement, content design, and Assessment & Grading.

How does Canvas promote 1A?

1. Canvas Community: The community is a great place to learn and share. Sign-in with our iss.instructure.com account, choice a group to following: K-12, Engagement. Find answers to any question, find innovative solutions, and Canvas hacks.
2. Canvas Commons: Join an I-SS Canvas Commons Group, share resources, preview those resources, provide innovative ways for you and your colleagues to connect and engage.
3. Collaborations: Start collaborations in Canvas courses with colleagues and with students. Collaborations allow you to connect and build content and ideas via the Google LTI integration.
4. Conferences: Use the Big Blue Button integration in Canvas to hold virtual PLCs, meetings, enrichment, tutorial, or coaching session for students. Present slide-decks, poll audience, engage with the Chat feature.

We have focused for some time on finding the right graphic to communicate theme, meaning, or to teach a concept. It is critical to use such media respectively, and responsibility; that is, to ensure that such media is attributed properly.

Digital Citizenship illustrates that teachers will model and teach digital citizenship by the ethical, respectful, and safe use of digital tools and resources that support the creation of a positive digital school culture. There are two indicators that will ensure that teachers demonstrate this competency:

1. Ensure full, equitable access and participation of all learners through high-quality technology tools and resources. When you choose the right image for the right occasion and model respectful and responsible use of those graphics, you are engaging students in equitable access, by providing high quality graphics that are purposeful and meaningful. In addition, teaching students that there are equitable and accessible alternatives for using graphics to present, share, and communicate, you are building their capacity as digital citizens.
