Shug McGaughey admits he’s been a little uptight this past week but was breathing a whole lot easier on Monday morning after watching Derby winner Orb drill a half-mile in :47.18 at Belmont Park preparing for Saturday’s Preakness Stakes.
“Right now I’m on cloud nine,” McGaughey said. “I couldn’t be more thrilled with what I‘ve seen. With the way he was striding today, the way he held his leads through the lane. I thought it was spectacular.”
Clockers caught the bay colt galloping out five furlongs in :59.54 under exercise rider Jennifer Patterson on a beautiful, crisp morning in Elmont.

DEPARTING Winner of the Illinois Derby is still improving and should be a likely
challenger for ORB.
GOVERNOR CHARLIE Not often you get Bob Baffert at 12/1. This speedster could try to steal it.
