Ott's Outlook
August 2019
Summer is a busy time for the school district as we prepare for the start of a new school year. This is also the time of year when we receive our preliminary state accountability ratings. As many of you know, we received a "B" rating, which is equal to or better than any of our peer districts in Central Texas. This is a direct reflection of the hard work of our students and staff as well as the support we receive from our families and community/business leaders.
The statement below is what I provided to the Temple Daily Telegram when asked for a comment on our preliminary results and it is a message that I would like to share with you as well.
"Temple ISD received the preliminary District Rating of a 'B'. As a superintendent, I am grateful for the rating; however, I also know that it is impossible for a single letter to measure the overall quality of education we provide in Temple.
For example, what if every kid in Texas passed the STAAR test? Would that mean that they are all college ready, all leaders, all employable, all happy? An exam will never measure those things in totality, but educators will always work to prepare our students in this manner. This proves that the ratings don’t even scratch the surface of what transpires in schools.
With or without our rating, having been part of this great district for the last seven years, and working in others, I know firsthand that we provide an innovative educational experience that is second to none. TISD is special and the recent statewide attention we are receiving is only validation to our special staff, students and families."
