Covid Daily Screener and Updated Resource

This is just a reminder that it is critical and expected that you complete the daily Covid screener before coming to school. You no longer need to complete the attestation form, but the screener is still a requirement. If you are experiencing ANY signs of illness, the screener will indicate you are not to come to school. If you test at home and the results are NEGATIVE, but you still have symptoms and do not feel well you do NOT attend school. Thank you for doing your part to keep us all safe!!!

For your reference, the screener can be found at: https://covid-19.ontario.ca/school-screening/

"Pie in the Face" Monday!

After many false starts, Lynden and Lenyx will finally be able to throw pies at Mrs. Sampson on Monday at 3:10pm, since they raised more than she did for Pedal for Hope.

Classes will be coming outside between 3pm - 3:10pm and taking a seat on the hill, facing the school.

While the students are coming out, we'll have a few songs we can dance to (YMCA, etc.). Then at 3:10pm we'll do a count down and then the official "throws". Parents - if you'd like to come on to the yard to join in the fun, you are welcome on this day!

Looking forward to a fun way to end our day on Monday :)

EQAO

Just to let everyone know that the Grade 3's and 6's were SUPPOSED to start EQAO tomorrow (Monday) but the platform is down and won't be available until Wednesday at the earliest. This changes so many things - and for this I'm very sorry! This is what I expect will happen (IF EQAO gets up and running again):

Wednesday, June 1st – Grade 3 and 6 Practice (Day 1)

Thursday, June 2nd – Grade 3 and 6 reflection day based on Day 1 Practice

Friday, June 3rd - Grade 3 and 6 Practice (Day 2)

Monday, June 6th – Thursday, June 9th: Grade 3 and 6 formal EQAO assessment

I'm sorry for any confusion this might cause!!!

Kindergarten Registration

Just a reminder that it is extremely important to register your child that is looking to start Junior Kindergarten with us in September of 2022.

We will be starting on-going communication with all registered families over the next week. We will also be setting up classes very soon, so we need to know all the names of students who will be with us!

For more information and to register, please go to: https://www.kprschools.ca/en/our_schools/resources/elementaryprograms/kindergarten.html

From the KPR Board Office....

Hello KPR families,

It has been a difficult week on many fronts - we are confronted once again by both local and international tragedies that affect our mental and physical resiliency. KPR’s Mental Health and Wellness team has compiled strategies for supporting children and teens that can be used by families. Close to home, our thoughts continue to be with all those impacted by last weekend’s severe storm, who may have experienced injury, loss, damage to property, and/or continue to be without power. Despite these challenging times, I feel grounded and uplifted by the daily positive and inspirational actions of students and staff in our schools and communities. I am grateful for our KPR community.

Looking ahead to next week, National AccessAbility Week (May 29 to June 4), celebrates the valuable and meaningful contributions of all persons with diverse abilities! I urge everyone to continue to reflect on how we can create a more inclusive society by recognizing and removing barriers to accessibility in our classrooms, schools and communities.

This week, I would like to highlight a wonderful Student Success Teacher, Advisor to Student Council, and now Acting Vice-Principal at Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School - Marsha Hanak. Marsha is always on the lookout for new and exciting ways to support student success and wellbeing. Learn more about her creative and solution-oriented approach and natural ability to form meaningful connections with students, staff and families in this week’s #WeAreKPR story.

I hope everyone is able to enjoy a restful weekend.

Sincerely,

Rita Russo

Director of Education

Secondary School Report Cards

Due to the significant impact of this weekend’s storm and its effects on our schools and communities, some schools have not been able to complete secondary mid-term report cards by today as originally planned. Report cards will now be issued on Tuesday, May 31st.

KPR Skilled Trades Virtual Event

Over the coming weeks, students and families are invited to explore the skilled trades through a virtual portal. The Skilled Trades Virtual Event website showcases careers in apprenticeship and the skilled trades, with stories featuring Indigenous community members and females in the trades. The online platform also includes career planning guides, virtual field trips, Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) videos, and a Scavenger Hunt with prizes!

Secondary School Food Services Survey

KPR has created a food services survey for secondary school families. Through this survey, we would like to find out families’ opinions about food service options for lunch breaks and snacks at high schools, with a particular focus on cafeteria service. Other food service options currently include vending machines, food carts and pre-order lunch programs.

Please complete the survey by June 3, 2022.

One more thing....

It's been a very tough week, on top of all the things you are already dealing with. Please make time to continue to fuel yourself!
