2nd Annual Candlelight Vigil
On August 27th, Safe Harbor hosted the 2nd annual ‘Into the Light’ Candlelight Vigil. The message remembered those who have been lost to addiction, provided hope to the loved ones left behind, and acknowledged the strength and perseverance of the many men and women still suffering.
START SCHOOLS LATER APPROVED BY SCHOOL COMMITTEE FOR 2020 - 2021 SCHOOL YEAR
At the August 21 Cohasset School Committee Meeting the School Committee voted unanimously to change the school day start and ending times for the 2020 – 2021 school year. The school day start and ending times for this year (2019 - 2020) will remain the same as to what we are accustomed.
This decision comes after a presentation by the Start Schools Later Team at a July School Committee meeting. This team presented regarding the importance of sleep for students of middle and high school age (presentation attached).
We realize that these changes in start and ending times will impact families. With that in mind, we will be hosting some Start Schools Later meetings to gain input on how to best facilitate the changes. Stay tuned for those dates.
Here is the proposed plan for the school day start and end times for the 2020 – 2021 school year. It should be noted that as we collaborate and hear more voice from stakeholders, the times may shift slightly.
Aspen Information
Here is a reminder concerning our adoption of the Aspen Student Information System (SIP) and what you can expect in the coming weeks:
What is Aspen?
The Cohasset Public School District is adopting Aspen, a secure, web-based Student Information System (SIS), which provides a variety of tools for students, parents, and staff. All of our data has been migrated from IPass to Aspen, and we are in the process of training all of our staff to successfully implement Aspen as our new SIS. The Aspen Portal provides students and families the ability to view student information including: attendance, homework assignments, grades, report cards and address and contact information.
Aspen Access:
Students in grades 9-12 will receive an Aspen student account in the first weeks of school through their cohassetk12.org email. Information regarding middle school and elementary school Aspen access will be forthcoming. A Family account will also eventually be provided for each parent/guardian, which allows parents/guardians to access information for all of their children through a single account. The features and information available in Aspen will be different depending on the student’s school level.
It is important that parents/guardians at all levels please fill out and return the Emergency Contact Forms (that were provided in the information packets mailed to you earlier this month, as they will help generate Aspen family portal access. We look forward to this SIS change, and we will provide family support regarding the use of Aspen, as we move into the school year.
We are excited for Cohasset's 250th Celebration. Stay tuned in the coming months for updates regarding how Cohasset Public Schools is taking a part in this important celebration!
