Highlighting our Pack Point Winners
At Tiffany Ridge, we use PACK Points to celebrate students who are meeting our four core expectations- Be A Problem Solver, Act Resonsibly, Care for Everyone, Keep Safe. When staff see students doing these things, they are reinforced with verbal reinforcement and a "Pack Point".
Classroom teachers also have Pack Point Menus for students to select rewards of their choice in their classroom.
Calling ALL Parents!
Spring is just around the corner and that means it’s time to start teaching about CAREERS! Unfortunately, we can not have visitors in our school to tell us about their careers. I am looking for parents, friends, or family who are willing to record a short video telling about their career, the educational requirements, and some other general information. Ideally, we will have several volunteers from each Career Path, so students see a wide variety of career options. We will show the videos during April and May in the morning broadcast announcement and during counseling lessons. If you, or someone you know, would like to volunteer for this opportunity please contact me at the email below. I can set up a time to record with you (interview style) or accept pre-recorded videos.
Career Paths:
Arts & Communication (Creative Path)
Business Management & Technology (Business Path)
Natural Resources & Agriculture (Nature Path)
Human Services (Helping Path)
Industrial & Engineering Technology (Building & Fixing Path)
Health Services (Health Path)

Empathy: How do we teach students to show empathy?
“Walk, walk, walk. Walk in their sh-oes.” This is a line of a very catchy song that teaches about empathy. Your students have learned that empathy is when we ‘put ourselves in someone else’s shoes and know or understand how they feel’. In some ways, empathy can be the basis of many social skills. It can help us connect with each other, show kindness, and even lead us to want to resolve conflicts rather than walking away. Those who lack empathy may have trouble making or keeping friends, struggle working or playing with others. They also might not understand that what they say or do impacts others.
Here are a few strategies you can use at home to help encourage your child to have and show empathy for others.
- Use TV/Movie time for learning – have conversations about things you see or watch on TV. It can be a simple commercial or a full movie. Ask them how they feel when they see that. How so the characters feel? What could THEY do if they were in that situation to make someone feel better?
- Use home situations – If siblings argue at home ask them (once they have calmed down) how they would feel if they were in their sibling’s shoes. Practice taking the perspective of someone else in the house to see how their actions impact others.
- Real world conversations – Notice things happening around you in all situations. See someone walking their cart to the coral in the rain? How does that make you feel? How do you think they feel?
- Practice naming emotions – randomly stop and ask how they are feeling. (Calm, happy, sad, curious, worried) Can they tell you how someone else is feeling based on the clues from facial expressions or the situation. (This is something we do during counselor lessons at school. Perspective taking can help them grow empathy for others!)

Nominate a Staff Member for the Park Hill STAR Award
That is why we present the Park Hill Star award once a month to a Pre-K or elementary teacher, a secondary teacher and a support employee. Anyone can nominate an employee for this award by using the form below. It asks you to share how your nominee demonstrates our district values of continuous improvement, high expectations, integrity, visionary leadership and student focus. You can also share how your nominee supports the goals in our district’s strategic plan.
