A Message from Dr. Davenport
The Spring Break is over and it brought the cold weather back. However, I hope all of our students and families were able to rest, relax, and enjoy the break as much as possible. I apologize for my delay in sending out the newsletter for this week. Please look below for information regarding the upcoming events on our campus and information regarding the decision by the Texas Education Agency to takeover the district.
Originally scheduled for this week was our PTO Meeting and our monthly Principal Chat and both of these events will be rescheduled. The PTO Meeting will now take place on Tuesday, March 28th starting at 5:00PM in our school library. We will be looking at the upcoming school year to plan out events and volunteer opportunities. Our monthly Principal Chat will be postponed until April 6th at 8:00AM due to on-campus testing.
Our Academic tutorials are still taking place and we appreciate all parents making sure their Bears are in attendance. For our students in Grades 3 - 5, we have also started some Saturday tutorial opportunities as they began to get ready for their upcoming state assessments in April.
A strong showing for our Roosevelt Basketball team against Ketelsen Elementary as the Bears cruised to a 48-21 victory. As always our Bears are doing a good job communicating and work hard as a team to collect one final win to end their season. Their effort on defense was incredible and they were relentless from start to finish. Our Bears ended their season with a 4-1-1 record and a wonderful season with great memories. Thank you to Coach Henry, Coach Broomfield, and our parent volunteers who helped throughout the season. Thank you to our Roosevelt Cheerleaders and all parents for coming out to support. Our Spring Soccer Season will be starting soon and information will be sent about tryouts.
We are in testing mode for different grade levels throughout the remainder of March and April. Since this will cause some changes in our daily schedule will we be halting our Lunch With Students schedule until testing is complete. Thank you for understanding our need to limit traffic on campus during this time.
We have one field trip this week for our Grade 3 students as they will be traveling to the Museum of Fine Arts on Thursday, March 23rd. Please be sure all permission slips have been turned in. Please contact your student's teacher for any additional information.
This week our PTO is starting their final fundraiser of the year, POPCORN!!! Students will be sent home with information regarding this fundraiser on Monday.
Thank you all for your continued support of our campus. As we continue to collaborate with each other, our students will benefits the most from our efforts. Please read below for more information about upcoming events on the campus.
TEA Takeover of Houston ISD
While I am uncertain about the full details of the takeover, I am confident in saying our campus should be able to continue to to operate as normal for the upcoming school year. The only thing we can currently control is what happens on Fulton St. I maintain committed to ensure we provide our students with a quality educational experience for the present and future.
