Welcome New Staff

Our new teachers received a warm welcome into the Bellevue Public Schools family from day one. During the all staff opening they were given a shout out from Superintendent, Jeff Rippe. We were lucky to catch up with them at a new teacher technology training where they learned about our district technology and had a little green screen fun with our technology department theme this year: Game On! Sit back, relax, and meet the newest members of #TeamBPS.

Paper Slide Videos

Need a way for students to show what they know?

How about a paper slide video. A paper slide video is a creative way for students to share their understanding of a topic through the use of paper puppets, a written script, a mesh stand, and an iPad or other mobile device to record their production. The iPad is elevated on the mesh stand with the camera looking through an opening of the mesh stand down to the table underneath. This portion of the table becomes the stage upon which students will act out their topic. The stands are now available to check out from the media center in your school!

Here is a video on paper slide videos from the creator, Lodge McCannon.

BlendED Playbook: Digital Workflow

This year we will be sharing components of blended learning in each TFlash. This edition, we will start with the definition and the first component, digital workflow.

Learning that combines face to face and online learning is a model called blended learning. Blended learning is defined by the Clayton Christensen Institute as, “a formal education program in which a student learns:

  1. at least in part through online learning, with some element of student control over time, place, path, and/or pace;

  2. at least in part in a supervised brick-and-mortar location away from home;

  3. and the modalities along each student’s learning path within a course or subject are connected to provide an integrated learning experience.”

The first step in creating the blended learning environment is to have a digital workflow. This can be accomplished in several ways.

  1. Learning Management System (LMS): such as Schoology, Canvas, or Moodle.

  2. Web Tools such as Seesaw and Classkick.

We use Schoology as our learning management system in Bellevue Public Schools which provides a consistent digital workflow for educators, students, and parents. In providing a digital workflow, teachers have the tools to design instruction that is efficient, differentiated, and private. You can log in to Schoology from a browser by navigating to bellevuepublicschools.org and clicking on Schoology at the top of the page. You can also access Schoology by going to http://bellevue.schoology.com or through the Schoology app on any mobile device.

Mac

Is the dock on your new computer not the same way you had it on your old computer? An easy fix is to right click (two finger click) on the vertical bar that is in the middle of your dock and then click on Dock Preferences. (See image below.) You are then able to choose from a variety of different options.

Also, to remove an app from your dock, simply click and drag the app up until it vanishes.

To keep an app in your dock, open the app and then right click on the app in your dock and click options and click to keep it in the dock.

Hashtags Telling Our Story

One of the most powerful parts of Twitter is the hashtag! It connects people, ideas, and creates communities within Twitter. It is a unique way for our teachers and administrators to share the amazing things happening in our schools, classrooms, clubs, teams and organizations. Our district hashtag, #bpsne, continues to grow and is becoming a powerful tool that we can leverage as a district to connect all of our teachers, students, parents, and community members. We encourage you to continue sharing the great things happening in your classrooms. Here is a list of all of the Bellevue Public School educators on Twitter. Let's create the 2016-2017 Bellevue Public Schools story together!
