Freshwater Biome

By Reed Martin and Jackson Rudolph

Where Freshwater is Located

Freshwater is located in lakes, rivers, bogs, ponds, icebergs, glaciers, and streams

Organisms in Freshwater

Some organisms that live in freshwater include: Alligators, Piranha, Catfish, Bass, Perch, Arapaima, Stingray, and Sturgeon. Banana Plant, and Moneywart.

Adaptations

Many freshwater animals have developed brown, grey, or green pigmentation in their skin.

This helps them blend in with their surroundings.

Variations

Many fresh water fish have variations between species. For example, the Red-Bellied piranhas are smaller than the Black-Bellied piranhas because the Black piranah hunts alone. The Whales Catfish is much larger than the flathead catfish so it can eat larger animals.

Interdependency

Many fish in freshwater depend on smaller fish to eat. Red-Bellied Piranhas depend on each other to get food. All of the fish depend on the plants to put oxygen in the water so they can breathe. Many fish also use the plants as a safe place to lay their eggs.
