Stanwood Middle School
Family Update - November 20th, 2020
A reminder, there is NO SCHOOL today, Friday, November 20th!
Also, next week will be a short week. We will have our normal schedule Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday, November 24th. Wednesday will be a short day for everyone (information below). There will be no school on Thursday, November 26th and Friday, November 27th.
An FYI for the next couple of weeks, with the Thanksgiving Holiday, all work assigned by teachers on Thursday, November 19th will be due Wednesday, December 2nd. Students may not see a "to-do" list on their Google Classrooms because the date is two weeks away; they will need to click into the classrooms to see all videos, assignments, and materials.
As always, please reach out if you need anything!
Thank you and have a great weekend!

A message from our Counselor Mrs. Fox!
What We Get When We Give
Hello Everyone! This week in our Wednesday Class Meetings, I shared a Character Strong lesson called “Give > Get” about how offering support and helping others is simply a great thing to do of course, and how it is also very good for our own physical and mental health. Students shared lots of great ideas and stories about how helping people feels good in their own experience.
Specifically, we talked about five ways that research studies show how helping others truly helps ourselves as well — it’s a win-win to help others, and couldn’t we all use some extra health and happiness right now? During this unusual time, even just sending a message to someone to say “I’m thinking about you” can go a long way to feeling more connected and extending kindness to another person. A simple kind act like this has ripple effects that extend far beyond that single exchange.
These five things are described in the images below — take a look and let it be a conversation starter with your student!
We also encouraged students to write down four people — a friend, a family member, an educator, and a classmate — to extend a “daymaker message” to make someone’s day by reaching out and offering support. See some of those ideas below, and hopefully some of you will be a lucky recipient of these messages :).
Extending kindness and, always, my offer to support your student and family ~

Typically a big part of our Open House is our introduction of staff in the gym and then students are able to tour the building and see those staff members in the classrooms. Because we are not able to be in person this year Mr. Wall, our wonderful multimedia, yearbook and keyboarding teacher, has put together a slideshow to allow families to see faces, to see what peoples roles are in the building, and to see contact information for everyone!
