Congratulation to FHS seniors, Christine B. Nguyen and Hannah H. Xia, who were named semifinalists in the 52nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. These scholastically talented high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for three types of National Merit Scholarship awards that will be offered next spring.

AP English III classes started their year by writing personal statements of belief. The "This I Believe" projects are patterned after the NPR invitation which encourages the public to write "nothing less than a statement of your personal beliefs, of the values which rule your thought and action."

FHS Speech & Debate Winners
Friendswood Forensics (FHS Speech & Debate) competed in the first tournament of the year at Clear Brook HS. Congratulations to:

- Nicholas Jeffcoat–5th place International Extemp & 6th place Championship Prose
- Kennedy Bateman–5th place Championship Lincoln-Douglas Debate

Mustang Follies
Vocal Ensemble and Campus Singers
This marked the second year that the Vocal Ensemble and Campus Singers have performed for an Astros game in early September. Over 200 in attendance, including the choir members and their families performed and cheered on our singers.
Wranglerettes
Meet the 2016-2017 Wranglerette Dance Team! The National Champion Wranglerettes are an Elite Drill/Dance team who have won National Titles 18 times since 1995.
In addition to dancing, the Wranglerettes work to instill discipline, teamwork, responsibility, and leadership traits within all members.

Congratualtions to our five athletes and two booster supporters who were inducted on September 2 into the 2016 Athletic Hall of Honor at Friendswood High School. The following inductees were athletes spanning from 1998-2005:

Our JV team finished 1st in the Manvel JV tournament and the freshmen team finished 3rd in their recent tournament!
Football
Friendswood football is off and running! Varsity is 2-0 going into district play. We are coming off of bye week and preparing for our first district opponent, the Dickinson Gators. We are excited for this Friday as we travel to Dickinson to play the Gators at 7:00PM.
Please come out to support our boys as we start district. JV Blue and JV Silver play on Thursdays after school at 4:00 and 6:00, come out to support your boys in blue!
Cross Country
Coach Haffeleder is excited about the Boys & Girls Cross Country teams this year. They already had great runs against Clear Creek & Kingwood with several runners setting personal best times.
The Mustangs will next run against Clear Falls at the Chester Davis Sportsplex on Friday September 23.

FHS Alum, Hannah & Claire Wimberly Elected to Top Leadership Position at Texas A&M University
Hannah Wimberly currently serves as the Student Body President and Claire Wimberly serves as President of the Senior Class (also pictured: Cecille Sorio, Commander of the Corps of Cadets) These two women currently hold two of the top three elected leadership positions at Texas A&M University. This is the school’s first time in their 140-year history that three women simultaneously held three top elected leadership positions. Hannah is a human resource and development senior from and Claire is a management senior.
