Application Results
We will not announce your college of attendance if we do not have evidence of your acceptance. It is also helpful for us to collect this data as it will help us guide future applicants to each college. Even if you receive a denial letter, it is very helpful if you can provide that information to me. Certainly, I won't share your individual information with anyone but would like to collect the data to better assist future students.

Scholarship Tips and Tricks
2. Beat the deadlines. Don't wait until the deadline to submit. Deadline are the final possible date to send out, it is very acceptable and recommended that you send earlier.
3. All of the below listed scholarships can also be found on Naviance.
4. Information about additional scholarships will be sent out as they are received.
5. Don't forget to contact the financial aid office at the colleges/universities you hope to attend to find out about institutional scholarships.
The Century Club of Scranton's Nurses Scholarship
Deadline: April 5, 2016
Along with the completed application, submit the following material:
- academic records
- three letters of recommendation
- one page typed essay on the importance of receiving this scholarship
The Pennsylvania Association of Medial Suppliers Scholarship
Award Amount: $1,000
The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize outstanding students who have been successful in their academic pursuits while overcoming their physical challenges with the help of home medical equipment such as wheelchairs, respiratory devices, diabetes devices, asthma devices, etc. Apply here
The criteria for this scholarship are:
- The applicant must be a resident of Pennsylvania or Delaware.
- The applicant is a high school senior
- The award must be used toward a post-high school education program.
Northeast Pennsylvania Audubon Society
Award Amount: $4,000
The Northeast Pennsylvania Audubon Society offers a $4000 scholarship to a graduating senior who wishes to major in an environmental field such as Forestry, Natural Resources, Environmental Planning, Environmental Engineering, Fish, Game or Wildlife Management, Ecology and/or Environmental Science at an accredited two or four year college or university. The scholarship is awarded in increments of $1,000 per year for each year of the degree program.
Aspiring Nurse Scholarship
Amount: $1,000
Deadline: June 30, 2016
Our website will award a $1,000 scholarship to an aspiring nurse who best demonstrates:
+ A track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics
+ A passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare
This scholarship is open to all high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN / LVN, ADN, and BSN programs. Scholarship applications will be accepted until midnight on June 30, 2016.

Paul T. Bordi Memorial Scholarship
It is once again, time for our annual Paul T. Bordi Memorial Scholarship. The CMC FCPI EMP. FCU, located at 415 Colfax Aveue, Scranton,Pa is proud to once again sponsor this award in Paul's memory. This 1,000 award is made possible through the generosity of others by participation in our yearly golf outing. Mr. Bordi was an remarkable and well-know local scout. He scouted for many pro baseball teams, including the Pittsburg Pirates, Florida Marlins and the N.Y. Yankees. Mr. Bordi helped countless youth obtain athletic scholarships to top programs and schools. We are proud to be associated with the late Paul Bordi, and thrilled to help keep his memory alive. This is our 16th year offering the scholarship.
The following criteria must be followed:
- 500 word essay on how sports has made me a better student
- Letter of recommendation from a guidance counselor or coach
- Report card or transcript showing at least a 2.9 GPA
- Must have participated in a school sponsored sport
- Must be attending a school of higher learning in the fall.
Jefferson Scholarship
Deadline: April 1, 2016
The scholarships shall be presented annually to qualified individuals for regular courses of study in a nursing program, or in a related field of study, at a college or university.
The scholarship(s) will be given to a student(s) who shall be selected by a scholarship committee of the Scranton Area Foundation. The student(s) shall have demonstrated characteristics of:
a. Academic achievement and/or honor student;
b. Good citizenship and service to others;
c. Leadership;
d. Financial need.
Christopher Till Sender Scholarship
A scholarship may be presented annually for educational expenses to a qualified person who will be attending a school of cosmetology in Lackawanna County in the year of the award.
Selection Procedures
1. The scholarship committee of the Scranton Area Foundation will meet annually to select the recipient of the scholarship:
2. The Scholarship will be given to a student whose qualifications shall be reviewed by the scholarship committee using the following guidelines:
a. Demonstrated commitment to his/her profession
b. Evidence of community involvement and service to others
c. Submission of a personal essay describing student's goals.
The Foundation will send a congratulatory letter to the recipient with details on how and when the grant will be paid.
This award shall be paid to the cosmetology school he/she is attending at the time of the award.
Midori Yamanouchi-Rynn, Ph.D. Scholarship Fund
The Scholarship award will be given to a qualified graduating senior at any local high school who will be attending a local college or university. The student shall be recommended by the School using the following guidelines:
The student shall have demonstrated characteristics of:
Academic achievement and/or honor student
Good citizenship and service to others
Leadership
candidate for the scholarship.
ONLY ONE APPLICANT PER SCHOOL. APPLICATIONS ARE DUE TO MRS. DEQUEVEDO by 3/30/16.

#GaryInspiredMe Scholarship
Two scholarships will be awarded each year, one from a public or private high school in Lackawanna County and one from a public or private high school in Luzerne County for education expenses at a four year college or university.
The scholarship grants will be given to qualified senior students selected by the SAF scholarship committee from applications received using the following guidelines:
The student must meet the following criteria:
Academic Excellence (GPA)
b. Good citizenship.
c. Participation in an athletic group within school or community.
d. Active member of a faith based or religious organization.
Student must submit an essay on how they are an inspirational person based on the qualities of Gary Lukasiewicz. Gary was an inspirational Riverside High School senior who exemplified qualities which inspire others to become better people, such as learning how to overcome a challenge, conquering adversity, and never giving up.
Once the student or students have been selected, the Foundation will send a congratulatory letter with details on how and when the scholarship grant will be paid.
This scholarship grant shall be paid to the college or university of the recipient’s choice for education expenses. When the recipient has education expenses at the college or university he/she should send a copy of an invoice to the Foundation and the Foundation will then issue a check payable to that college or university.Application can be found here!
Joseph (Firp) and Charles Pacino Scholarship Award
Deadline: April 1, 2016
The scholarship will be given to a student selected from among applicants from Lakeland High School, Mayfield resident.
Each year Lakeland High School will accept applications from qualified graduating senior students using the following guidelines.
The student shall have demonstrated characteristics of:
Academic achievement and/or honor student
Good Citizenship and service to others
Leadership
Financial need is not a stated criteria, but may be considered in selecting a candidate for the scholarship.
Lakeland High School forwards the applications to the Scranton Area Foundation office.
The award recipient shall be selected by a representative from Lakeland High School and a representative of Scranton Area Foundation.
The Foundation will send a congratulatory letter with details on how and when the grant will be paid.
ONLY THE TOP 3 APPLICANTS WILL BE FORWARDED BY MRS. DEQUEVEDO FOR CONSIDERATION BY THE SCRANTON AREA FOUNDATION.
