Superintendent's Corner
January 6, 2023
Welcome Back and Happy New Year!
I hope you all enjoyed the break. Although it was nice to have a little bit of time to relax and rejuvenate, it sure is great to have the students and staff back in the buildings!
The staff arrived back on the 3rd and spent the day engaged in a Leader in Me training on goal setting. Our main academic goal across the SU this year is foundational reading, and we talked about many ways to set and keep track of classroom and individual student goals. It was a great professional development opportunity and our plan for the future is to embed goal setting into the work that we do with our students.
The Arts at WSESU
We are so fortunate to have incredible community support for our Arts programs at WSESU. We are also fortunate to have dedicated and talented staff members who inspire a love of the arts in our students. There were so many amazing performances before the break where our students had opportunities to shine on the stage!
Students Lead the Way
Congratulations to Hudson Ranney for becoming a student representative on the Mount Ascutney School District School Board!
JANUARY 3RD PROFESSIONAL LEARNING FOR OUR STAFF
A major accident at the intersection of Rte. 5 and Rte. 106 in Ascutney early Tuesday morning could not keep our Weathersfield School, Windsor School, and Albert Bridge School pK-5 teachers and support staff from getting themselves to the Weathersfield School! The Leader In Me training on setting goals with students started a bit later than expected but we heard that there was lots of discussion and learning happening amongst the teams. The Windsor and Weathersfield 6-8 teams met at ABS for a similar training in goal setting for students. The emphasis was on how do we engage our students through goal setting and accountability. We really wished our Hartland teams could have joined in on these trainings but the HES staff had already had the training in August. They enjoyed a day of setting up classroom goals and goal-tracking displays that are sure to excite and motivate their students. The 9-12 team met at their school to discuss program development, scheduling, curriculum and how to support all students. All in all, a very full day of learning! Thanks to all who made it possible.-The CIA Team
Insight Education Equity Audit
Dear Families/Caregivers,
Our district is participating in an audit process to identify ways to ensure our policies, practices, and outcomes are more equitable for all students and adults. In addition to reviewing data and surveying groups of students and staff, our auditors would like the opportunity to discuss issues of equity in greater detail with small groups. This important information will be used to create an equity plan that improves experiences for all students and adults in the district.
We are inviting parents/caregivers to participate in a focus group discussion to share thoughts, experiences, and suggestions on issues related to educational equity in Windsor Southeast Supervisory Union. Our hope is to conduct one parent/caregiver focus group in each of the four towns in our SU during the weeks of Jan. 23 - Feb. 10th. The focus groups will run 45 - 60 minutes.
Please sign up via the google form linked below if you have an interest in participating in the focus group in your community.
Thank you for your consideration.
