Westy Academy Weekly Newsletter

Week of February 28th-March 4th 2022

A Message From the Principal...

Owls,

Ending this week, we are half way through our Parent Teacher Conferences! We have our last round occurring Monday and are thankful to all the parents who have shown up on time and ready to chat about your students. If you need to make a change to a conference time, or missed one this past Thursday, please reach out directly to your student's teacher for support!

The HRS Survey is now closed, and we are appreciative of the feedback we received. hearing directly from the families and students is what helps render aid in areas we may be lacking and allows for growth in areas we may not have been aware of before. Alternatively, we can see areas in which our families believe the school flourishes and shines. Both pieces of information are crucial in supporting our school, and maintaining the best possible learning environments for our students--your children.

So.... THANK YOU AGAIN, to all those that completed the survey! The office will be drawing names for prizes next week, and we will announce the winners in next Friday's newsletter.

Last item of mention this week, is the kick-off of our After School Tutoring Program!

If you received an invitation for tutoring for your student, Intermediate tutoring (grades 3rd-5th) will begin Tuesday through Thursday from 4p-5p; starting next week on March 1st.

Primary tutoring will be from 2p-3p; Tuesday-Thursday starting March 7th.

Please reach out if you are interested in afterschool tutoring! As we on-board more tutors we will be reaching out to more families!

Sincerely,

Mr. Warwick

The Hollow--Student Activities and Accomplishments

Westy Academy would like to start acknowledging our students for their accomplishments and extracurricular activities they participate in outside of school!

Each week, "The Hollow" section of the newsletter will feature students competing in sports, participating in dance classes, craft classes, learning new skills, earning awards, etc!

Wanna be featured??

If you have a photograph you would like to share of your student participating in their activity, please send a copy to Ms. Michelle at Mellerd@westminsterpublicschools.org along with a short description!

Zoo-rific!; Primary Grades Musical

Our littlest owls have been preparing for their Spring Musical, Zoo-rific!

Mrs. Anderson and Mr. Moore's students will be participating!

WEDNESDAY; MARCH 9th at 5:30pm.

Ms. Grenham has provided some resources to help children practice at home. Please find attached a packet that was sent home with students sharing the script and how to get to the songs on Empower.

Please encourage them to practice at home on their chrome books!

Students should arrive around 5:15 so the show can start at 5:30. Students can wear costumes. They can be anything zoo related: animals from the songs, general zoo animals, zookeepers, etc. They can wear their school uniform and hold props if they do not bring their own costume.

Please let me know if you have any technical difficulties or any questions.

I'm so looking forward to the performance!

Lost and Found

Our Lost and Found bin has been overflowing for weeks now, and we have presented many chances during school events since the fall for parents or students to claim any lost items. Now that we are more than half way through the year, its time for a purge.

We will be making a donation of clothing and items that are remaining in the Lost and Found at the end of next week.

Please ask your student to check Lost and Found for any missing items before next Friday. Parents are also welcome to swing by the school to take a look through the clothes, and claim anything they find as their missing item.

Thanks Owls!

After School Tutoring--Ask About It!

Westy Academy will begin to offer tutoring to students throughout grade levels. If you are interested in tutoring for your student, please reach out to their teacher, or call the office. We would be happy to talk with you about the program!
