Square Up to RTI2
Response to Instruction and Intervention April 2022
"I wasn't born to 'just teach'. I was born to inspire others, to change people, and never give up; even when faced with challenges that seem impossible." Anonymous
Reminders:
- Direct fidelity monitoring is a critical component to consider as we review student- focused data to adjust instruction and intervention. The data entered into Aspen needs to focus on individual students, not what the teacher is doing. This data is used in RTI meetings to determine if adjustments should be made in moving students toward greater progress. If you need more support in completing these observations, contact your RTI Facilitator for support.
- Students need the following number of observations:
- Tier 2 (2 times/semester)
- Tier 3 (3 times/semester)
- As you complete direct and indirect data reviews, put notes in student plans. The information on where the student is struggling, where progress is occurring, and what changes have been made helps next year teachers make impactful decisions for individual students.
- All students in grades K-8 need to participate in the Spring Universal Screener. Contact your RTI Facilitator for measures to administer for this Spring Screener.
Viewing next year's students in Aspen
Filters in Aspen will allow you to see a listing of next year's RTI2 students by area of need and tier. These lists are based on current RTI2 student plan in Aspen and will show students moving from 5th to 6th and 8th and 9th. Please remember that these lists are only based on that day's current RTI2 students and many will change in May. Under the Student tab, click on the Filter (funnel icon.) Within the list you will see the following options:
RTI_Active_Math_Tier2_Next_Year
RTI_Active_Math_Tier3_Next_Year
RTI_Active_Reading_Tier2_Next_Year
RTI_Active_Reading_Tier3_Next_Year
RTI_Active_Wr_Exp_ALL_Next_Year
aimswebPlus Universal Screening
- Universal screening in the Spring is required for K-8th graders.
- The window opens May 2 and ends May 20th.
- Parent home reports must be sent home after these meetings. See the link below for required letters per grade level.
Identifying Characteristics of Dyslexia
As data meetings occur, we often identify students with characteristics of dyslexia. How we support these students vary depending on specific student needs. We must remember to communicate to the parent/guardian. This Parent Brochure is helpful for parents in understanding how they can support their child.
More resources are available on the RTI Department page on the KCS website. For more information, contact your school's RTI2 Facilitator.
To learn more about identifying characteristics of dyslexia, join us on April 11th at Sarah Simpson from 4-5pm and earn unscheduled inservice hours. You may sign up on MyLearningPlan.
