County Central May Hawk Talk
'Home of the Hawks'
Principal's Point
Dear Parents & Guardians,
I can't believe it's May already! Seeding has begun and all we need now is some rain. We have a ton of events coming up in the next 6 weeks heading into exams and the end of the school year.
We recently held our Grade 9 Information Sessions and will soon be hosting a similar session for the parents and guardians of the Grade 6 students coming into Grade 7. It has been wonderful having parents and guardians back for in-person meetings! Over the next two weeks we will be sending out course selection forms for all students in Grade 9-11.
This week we are recognizing "Hats on for Mental Health." On Wednesday, May 4th, students and staff are encouraged to wear a hat to school to raise awareness of the importance of good mental health as well as the importance of removing the stigma associated with mental illness. We will be offering some lessons focusing on ways students can look after their own mental well-being, and will be giving out a prize courtesy of the Vulcan Mental Wellness Support Community.
Our next School Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 11th at 5:30pm. This meeting will be held virtually, and we invite any parents or guardians who would like to join us to please check the website or contact the Main Office for the meeting link. I hope to see you all there :)
The Grade 9 ELA Part A provincial achievement test is scheduled for Monday, May 16th at 9:00am. The schedule for the rest of our final exams will be released soon. I encourage all of our students to check out the Study Skills booklet for tips and strategies as we prepare for our final push.
Graduation exercises will be held on May 27th and 28th. Diplomas will be awarded at the ceremony on May 27th at 7:00pm, and this event is open to the public. We will also be having a banquet on May 28th. Graduates and their parents or guardians will be having dinner at 6:00pm, after which family, friends, and community members can join us at 7:00pm for the grand march and evening program. We look forward to being able to celebrate our grads together again this year!
This is a reminder that there is no school for Grade 7 & 8 students on Friday, May 6th, and we have a Division-wide professional day on May 20th. May 23rd is Victoria Day, so there will not be any classes that day as well. I hope that the weather cooperates with your long weekend plans and that you all have a safe and healthy start to your spring.

We will be offering a Law Enforcement presentation on May 3rd during CHAT. This presentation will include members from the RCMP, Fish and Wildlife, and CP Police. They will discuss their education, backgrounds, current job duties and much more. This is a “DO NOT MISS'' for any students interested in a career in law enforcement!
The Olds College Discovery Day field trip is set to go for May 12th.
This will be a first come first serve trip with a limit of 32 kids due to bus size. If your child is in Grade 10, 11, or 12 and interested, please have them see me ASAP to pick up their consent forms. The first 32 students to hand in their signed consent forms will be able to participate in this fun, full day trip to Olds!!
A new list of Dual Credit courses are being offered for the summer and fall of 2022! The information session will be held on Wednesday, May 4 at 6:30pm. Students will need to register for this session.
Students graduating this year can still take dual credit in the summer if they wish.
Applications will open May 2. Applications are due May 20.
Application info, the list of courses, etc. can all be found at palliseroffcampus.ca

Grad Gab
The 2022 Grad Bulletin has been sent to our Grade 12 families. This document has information about timelines for our upcoming events as well as the proposed program.
We thank all of our parent volunteers who have been helping with our grad preparations this year. Plans are underway for the decorations, banquet, and having the banners hung. As we get closer to the event, we will be looking for assistance with setting up the CRC, moving the risers over from VPE, and laying out the runway. If you have time during the week of May 24th and can help with any of these tasks, please get in touch with the school and we'll connect you with the committee.
I'd also like to thank the Grade 12s who helped with the bottle drive on Friday, as well as the families and neighbours who donated their recyclables to the cause. If we missed anyone, or if you have bottles you'd like to donate, you can drop them off at the Vulcan Bottle Depot and let them know they're for the GRAD 2022 account.
If you have any question, please don't hesitate to get in touch with Ms. Hellman.
