A Day in the Life of a Blanton Knight

This year, we would like to provide an experience for parents that will give you information about our reading and math curriculum while also working alongside your student to see strategies we use in the classroom. In the past, we have had separate ELAR and math curriculum nights and an open house on a separate night. By combining the three nights, we hope to make a more manageable and meaningful time for our families.

There will be two identical sessions offered with a short break in between. This will allow parents who have children at multiple grade levels to participate as well as provide multiple time options to fit into busy mid-week schedules.

We are excited about trying something new and will hopefully meet the needs of our families before we get into the rush of the school year. Because this will occur about a month before our student-led conferences, we hope this will foreshadow the work your child will showcase to your during their conference.

Arrival in the Mornings Updated

Our students have done a beautiful job getting to school on time and finding their classrooms. Even our Kinder Knights have learned the layout of the school and how to get from one place to another on their own. We encourage that sense of independence, as it helps our children to feel safe and ready to start their day.

Beginning Monday, August 26th, parents who choose to walk their children to class will need to check in through the office. Please have your driver's license ready. Students may still be dropped off in the back by the cafeteria, but no parents will be allowed to enter through that door. All parents must enter through the front. We also ask that students are not let out of their cars in the front parking lot without a parent parking in a designated spot and walking them across the drive by Mrs. Dorrell at the crosswalk.

When students arrive prior to the 7:30 bell, they may go to one of three places at this time: the cafeteria to eat breakfast, the gym to engage in before school activities, or to the library on designated days. Please see the flyer below for the various activities that will be offered in the library on specific days.

Volunteers

We love to have volunteers! Opportunities exist throughout the school year to volunteer from individual classroom needs to school-wide support. In order to volunteer in any capacity (including Watch DOGS) you must fill out the background check information every school year. If you did so for the 2018-2019 school year (or any previous school year) you must still fill out an application for the 2019-2020 school year.

The application can be found at www.dentonisd.org/volunteer.

Grandparent's Day - Thursday, September 12th

We can hardly wait to meet our students' grandparents at the breakfast on September 12th in their honor! Grandparents are special people in a child's life and have a significant impact on their well-being.

Students and their grandparents will have breakfast in the cafeteria beginning at 7:00 a.m. When they are finished they are able to go look at books in the Book Fair which is also that week. Grandparents are welcome to walk their grandchildren to class on this day beginning at 7:30 to say their goodbyes.

Lunch with your Child

As the year progress we hope you have the opportunity to have lunch with your child. We ask when you are able to come eat lunch, you do so with just your child at the designated tables on the stage. Although other students may want to join along, please, eat lunch with just your child.

Parent Connection

We recognize the value of parent input and open dialogue with our student's parents. Our focus in each of our Parent Connection meetings is to better communicate our vision and action of supporting and growing your child while they are with us as a Blanton Knight. We invite you to be a part of our conversation and build our bridge of communication from school to home.

Please visit our Parent Connection site to learn about the topics and dates for our first semester. We are hopeful that as many as possible will attend.
