Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!
March 27, 2020
From the desk of: Principal Hoese
Dear Lil Steamer Families!
As we get set for the start of our E-Learning days on Tuesday, March 31st, I wanted to touch base on a few things: communication between home and teachers, the FES playground, our Chromebook policy, and our #WINTHEDAY challenges!
COMMUNICATION: I have encouraged teachers to communicate to students and families regarding our E-Learning days. Teachers will be notifying students/families of their availability and methods of communication for E-Learning; this will vary from teacher to teacher. Please check parent/guardian and student emails daily from this point on. If you have any questions, please let your teacher(s) know or contact me at jhoese@riverbendschools.net
FES PLAYGROUNDS: Governor’s Executive Order No. 2020-10 requires that playgrounds be closed because they may increase the spread of COVID-19.
CHROMEBOOK POLICY: Please review our Chromebook Policy as this is the first time many of the Chromebooks are going home for FES students. It can be located on the district website and is also attached in this email. Please help students take care of the Chromebooks so we can continue learning!
#WINTHEDAY: Each day at Fulton Elementary School, we live stream our morning announcements at www.youtube.com/fesnewsroom at approximately 8:15 AM. During the announcements, Principal Hoese shares the 5 #WINTHEDAY challenges. Students must write them down and cross them off as they complete them. All 5 must be completed before bed in order to #WINTHEDAY. When you cross the last item off the list, mark a big W down as a WIN for the day. If you do not complete all 5 challenges, you must mark down a big L as a loss for the day. Students who have 80% or more of their days won will earn a prize! This challenge is open to all students, even those outside of our school district. Please share your challenge win photos or videos with our fesnewsroom@riverbendschools.net email account for us to share in our "Happy Friday, Lil Steamer Families!" newsletter.

Low Cost Internet
River Bend Families,
The principals and teachers will be communicating with you and your students this week to determine internet capabilities. We have also learned the area internet provider, Mediacom is offering internet services for 9.95/month for qualifying families. The following link will provide more information about Mediacom's offer https://mediacomc2c.com/ If you are aware of any better internet deals in the area please share with us and we will post or send out.
Thank You,
Darryl Hogue

Schmaling Memorial Public Library - E-Books
Everyone with a library card is able to access ERead IL to check out e-books. All Riverbend students can get a library card for free, regardless of where they live. Schmaling Memorial Public Library has a school district roster and is able/willing to issue cards remotely.
Schmaling Memorial Public Library suggested reaching out to her directly for more information at fulpublib@mchsi.com.
Virtual Art Show!
FES faculty staff and families,
For the next six Saturdays I will be displaying students artwork by grade. This week's presentation is from the students in 5th grade.
I think you will be impressed with the artwork.

FULTON’S 2020 DUTCH DAYS FESTIVAL IS CANCELLED
The Fulton Dutch Days Festival Committee has announced the cancellation of the 46th annual Festival, scheduled for May 1 and 2, 2020.
The Committee, following consultation with the Mayor, City Administrator, Whiteside County Health Department, and Dr. Stephen Harrison, the City’s Medical Director, decided to cancel this year’s Festival. The decision to cancel complies with the recommendations and directives of the CDC, Illinois’ Governor Pritzker, and the White House Coalition Team.
This decision is made out of concern to keep residents, visitors, and volunteers safe during this period of time when social distancing becomes a necessity. Many of our local businesses and organizations enjoy participating and benefit financially during the Festival so we encourage everyone to support them when the restrictions are lifted from our daily routines.
Our theme this year, “THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE LIBERATION OF THE NETHERLANDS” will carry over to next year’s Dutch Days Festival and interested parties are encouraged during the year to read the book, OPERATION CHOWHOUND,” by Stephen Dando-Collins which will be a focus on the theme.
See you next year—May 7 and 8, 2021.
