March 1, 2023 - NEWSLETTER
Estimadas familias de Woodcrest,
It’s March already! The past couple of months have flown by and we’re already approaching spring.
It’s been a busy week at Woodcrest! Yesterday, our 2nd graders had their music and art show. It was a great success! It was so fun to see them perform and to look at their beautiful art in the hallways. A special thank you to Ms. Swenson, our music teacher, and Mrs. Schwartz, our art teacher, for making this event a reality. We have our 4th grade music and art show coming up tomorrow. We are excited to make this a tradition for our 2nd and 4th graders.
There are lots of important and fun events and themes in March. It’s Women’s History Month, there is Pi day, Read Across America Day and it’s music in our schools month. In music class, students will participate in a fun activity throughout March with Ms. Swenson called March Music Madness. Our staff members have submitted 16 songs and the songs will face off, tournament style, in music class (just like March Madness in basketball). The teacher or staff member with the winning song at the end earns the March Music Madness trophy! Last year, Sra. Magnuson won the trophy for her song. Who will win it this year? Stay tuned!
March will continue to be a busy month. We have our 4th grade music and art show tomorrow, another fun curriculum and family night on Friday and spring break is right around the corner. Remember there is no school for starting on March 10. We’ll return to school for the third trimester on March 21.
Please see the newsletter for more information on what’s happening in March.
In partnership,
Jaime Nymann
Principal

Construction trades course receives $50k grant
The Panther Foundation has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Installed Building Products Foundation to support the Construction Trades course at Spring Lake Park High School. Students in the course are building a house that will move into the community later this spring.
“This grant supports students in gaining real-world skills and experience building a home and exploring career paths in the trades,” says Eric Van Brocklin, pathways program lead. “The resulting product will provide quality, affordable shelter for a family in our community.”
The construction trades course is part of the high school’s Career and College Pathways programming in which students explore potential career paths as they gain real skills and experience. There are three pathways that each represent a need for future jobs and community impact — Technology, Engineering and Design; Health and Human Services; and, Business and Entrepreneurship.

Panthers for a Purpose raises $120k
The Panther Foundation’s annual Week of Giving and Panther Party raised $120,000 to support activities and programs benefiting the students of Spring Lake Park Schools.
The Week of Giving, February 18-25, was full of panther pride. There were themed spirit wear days, dine to donate opportunities in partnership with local restaurants, and a silent auction with more than 300 packages open for bidding and a Panther Party on Saturday night.
While the party may be over, the giving isn’t. Each year, the Foundation identifies a Fund-A-Dream project. This year, the focus is support for career and college readiness programming and you can still donate donating online.

We have a special opportunity to use our recently purchased video projection blow up dome (think planetarium). If you have experience with projectors or want to learn, please let us know! We must have volunteers signed up to offer this!
Food will be served starting at 6 p.m. in the cafeteria. Crowd favorite Jets Pizza will be $4 for one slice or $7 for two slices. Canned beverages will also be available for $1 each.
