A Message from Principal Johnson
I hope everyone is keeping your spirits up and staying safe. SMS has been making strides to keep improving our students' social, emotional, and academic needs. There are a lot of societal things that are great influences on our students, like social media. I continue to ask that you talk with your child about making positive choices. With the uptick in social media challenges, students continue to be persuaded into trying them at school. We have been able to counteract the social media challenges with swift discipline behaviors and my morning chats on the SMS News. However, it will take all of us working together to keep our students focused on achieving success and staying emotionally healthy. I ask that you continue to support our school-wide initiatives, clubs, volunteering, and sponsored activities.
As we get ready for the Thanksgiving Holiday, I want to wish everyone a festive time with family and friends. If you are traveling out of town or just resting at home, may you find peace and comfort.
Make sure to join us at our next "Evenings with Principal Johnson" on November 18th at 6:30 PM. This is when I get a chance to share with you (parents) the wonderful things happening in our school and encourage you to participate in some round-robin conversations.
Everyone have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Mrs. Johnson,
Principal

This month’s theme is “Attitude of Gratitude.” Giving thanks and expressing gratitude is one of the oldest concepts in society. It is especially important during a pandemic like COVID-19 when the world around us is unpredictable and sometimes even dangerous. Learning to practice gratitude every day can help bring some stability to your life by getting you to focus on what is good rather than what is uncertain or unpredictable. In addition, research shows that positive emotions like gratitude are closely connected to health and wellness. Some ways you can cultivate an “attitude of gratitude” include writing a thank-you note to someone, sending a text, or an email. Tell someone you appreciate them. Start a Gratitude Journal in which you write the things you’re grateful for each day. Ultimately, developing an attitude of gratitude makes you feel happier and more positive.
