National School Counseling Week: Thank you Mrs. Jones, Mr. Lantz and Mrs. Pagel!
National School Counseling Week 2022 (#NSCW22) is Feb. 7-11, 2022, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. National School Counseling Week is always celebrated the first full week in February.
Make sure to take time this week to tell your counselor THANK YOU for all they do for you and for our school community!

RWHS SNOW WEEK 2022!
Snow Week 2022 will be Feb 22 - 26!
Check your email for details and to participate!
*All grades can sign up for the karaoke contest, which will be Wed. or Thurs. during an advisory period the week of Snow Week.
*9th - 12th graders should sign up to be on Family Feud, which will be Wednesday of Snow Week at 7:00pm.
*We will have a fun pepfest during the school day on Friday.
*Semi-formal dance is Saturday, Feb 26, from 8:00-10:30pm.
7th & 8th Grade Ski Trips!
We are excited to share that we have arranged an experiential learning opportunity for our 7th and 8th grade students this month! 7th graders will ski at Welch Ski Village on February 18th and 8th graders on February 23rd.
There are three things that must be completed in order to attend the trip:
1) Guardians must fill out the PAPER Waiver for RWPS and students must return to their advisory teacher.
2) Guardians must complete the ONLINE waiver for Welch Ski Village. This was emailed on 1/25/22 from Mrs. Pagel.
3) Return $35 to student's advisory teacher ($25 for ski lessons, ticket and equipment + $10 for bussing).

"The Music Man" success!
Congratulations to the many RWHS students and staff who made "The Music Man" such a successful musical! The talent on stage, the beautiful music, the amazing stage work/lights/sound/costumes/props/etc. all unified for a wonderful show for the audience. Great job to all!

Winger Shout-Outs!
Our RWHS staff would like to do weekly shout-outs to students who deserve some extra recognition. Thanks for showing and sharing your Winger Pride!
-Olivia Gallo is such a hard worker. She puts so much effort into her Spanish work each day. She works hard on her assignments and tests. She is also a very kind student who works well with her classmates in partner work. -Mrs. Toivonen
-Thank you to Nicole Vogel. She apologized for her part in a tense interaction and advocated for her needs calmly and effectively. -Mr. Hoffman
-Bennett Thomas is such a delightful young man to have in my advisory. He has a great personality and has a daily greeting for me. He is a day brightener! -Mrs. Toivonen
-I really appreciate how my 8th grade Art students have started off the semester with such good energy and hard work! Thanks for a fun start to the Quarter! -Bray
-Brayden Shafer is academically bright and did very well in his classes last semester. He is polite to staff and cares about the wellbeing of his friends and peers. -Kaycee Tulip
-I would like to recognize Aubrey Christen for showing Winger Pride everyday in Advisory and Global Studies class. Aubrey always has a positive attitude and he goes out of his way to be kind to everyone! -Mrs. Shannon
-Olivia Mercado is one of those students everyone loves having in class--she's kind to others, has sharp insights, shows patience, and is a pleasure to be around. I'm so glad I got to work with her this year! -Mrs. Kiefer
-Brennan Soper works so hard in Spanish class. He started in the middle of the first semester and has done a fantastic job of working outside of class to catch up. I appreciate his hard work. I also appreciate how polite and kind he is to his classmates and teachers. -Mrs. Toivonen

Attention all RWHS 2022 seniors and parents, the deadline for submission of senior pictures will be February 16th, 2022. We have provided the dropbox below where you can insert your young adult's senior pictures. Please let us know if you have any questions.

Tuesdays and Thursday: Winger Study
ALL students are invited and welcomed to attend to get extra work time and support in their studies. Students do not need an appointment to attend but are encouraged to communicate with their teachers if they need materials, help or tests to work on during this time. All students will need to have their own transportation home from Winger Study.
Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:50pm-4:45pm
7 and 8th Grade in Lower H pod:
Language arts and Social studies in Lower J pod: Mr. Bowes
Math and Science in Upper H pod: Mrs. Burns
Other subject areas can be addressed in all areas as well.
Driver's Ed. SUMMER CLASSES! Registration opens February 14th!
Registration for our summer sessions will open on Monday, February 14!
No registrations will be accepted before this date.
Summer Class Options:
Session 1: June 13-24, M-F, 8:30am-11:30am, make up date on June 27
Session 2: July 11-22, M-F, 8:30am-11:30am, make up date on July 25
Session 3: August 1-12, M-F, 8:30am-11:30am, make up date on August 15
Program Cost:
$180 for the classroom portion only.
$220 for behind the wheel only.
$385 if you register for both the classroom and behind the wheel at the same time (savings of $15).
If you are in need of assistance in paying for driver's education payment plans can be set up through our office.
To be fully registered you must:
1) have the registration form (attached) filled out and returned to our office. If you're unable to print the form, hard copies can be picked up in our office starting on Feb. 7th.
2) submit payment for at least the classroom portion
3) have a parent or guardian signature on the registration form
Thank you for your interest in Driver's Education through Red Wing Community Education and Recreation. Spots fill quickly and are taken on a first come first serve basis. There will also be an interest list for the fall if a fall class would work better for you and your family, let us know if you would like to be added to the fall interest list.

Virtual Financial Aid Events
Free financial aid events are available to Minnesota students and families via Zoom! The series, running February 8 through March 1, will cover general financial aid information, details on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the Minnesota Dream Act for undocumented students, and other ways to pay for college.
All sessions are at 7:00 p.m. and will last approximately 45-60 minutes. Participants can ask questions in the chat.
Participants can attend any number of sessions (choosing dates during registration).
Participants who attend 4 out of 5 sessions will be eligible to win a $500 scholarship!
• February 8 (Tuesday): Financial Aid Overview
• February 15 (Tuesday): Complete the FAFSA
• February 17 (Thursday): Complete the Dream Act
• February 22 (Tuesday): Understanding your Offer Letter
• March 1 (Tuesday): Scholarship Search

Yes! All sessions will have simultaneous interpretation in Spanish, Somali and Hmong. In addition, there will be
financial aid professionals during each session who can answer questions in the chat in Spanish, Somali and Hmong if
needed. We plan to record the presentations as well.
