Upcoming Events & Information for Pleasantdale Families
A Note from the Principal's Office
October 28, 2018
Dear PES Families,
The excitement of Halloween is in the air! We look forward to welcoming families to PES for our annual PES Costume Parade. This year, it looks like the weather will cooperate and we will be able to hold our parade outside. Students will be walk around the front of the building and loop through the back parking lot. Families are welcome to stand anywhere along the parade route to snap pictures!
- Did you know? Mrs. Marrari does more than just make art with students. As part of her class, she works to instill a growth mindset among her students related to their work as artists. Students develop an understanding that art is more than something you make...it's something you experience...it's something you create for others to experience. Next time you're visiting PES, check out the display boards and see how they are changing. Under Mrs. Marrari's guidance, students are planning how to display their work and how their display will help others experience the art that has been created.
- Conference Sign-up will begin on November 1st. Information was emailed to all parents last Friday. Please check this email for important information about how to sign up for an opportunity to meet with your child(ren)'s teacher(s). If you are unavailable during the scheduled conference days (November 19-20), please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher to set up an alternative time.
- The Halloween Costume Parade is planned for Wednesday, October 31st at 2pm. Children are welcome to change into school appropriate costumes (no violent costumes or weapons) just prior to the parade. Families are welcome to join us for the parade. For the safety and comfort of all students (from preschool through 4th grade), students will not be allowed to carry weapons of any kind, wear masks, or wear violent costumes (eg. blood, gore, etc). We realize some students' costumes may have these components, though we ask that they stay home for trick or treating after school. If a student brings these items to school, they will be asked to keep them in their backpack. Thank you for your cooperation in helping your child be prepared for our parade. If your child wishes not to dress in costume, they are still welcome to walk in the parade with their class.
- Halloween Candy Collection is back! After the children wrap up their Trick or Treating, and complete any trading and sorting they may do, we invite students to donate extra candy to the military. Our Treats for Troops collection bins will be located at the front doors of PES for one week following Halloween.
- PES Parent Coffee with Dr. Ban and Ms. Tomei is planned for Thursday, November 8th at 9:15am. Parents are invited to join us for an informal discussion focused on Understanding Your Child's MAP Report and Making the Most Out of Parent-Teacher Conferences. To help us be prepared, we ask that you RSVP to Terry Maly in our front office. tmaly@d107.or
- White Buffalo Park Update- We are getting close to completion and look forward to using the newly renovated park soon. Last Friday, I received word from the Pleasant Dale Park District that, while the park is nearly done, they are making a few alterations that will improve the safety for users. Once these changes are made, I look forward to welcoming our students to the playground.
- Veterans Day Assembly is scheduled for Monday, November 12th. Students are encouraged to invite a friend or family member who is a US Veteran to join us. During our assembly, students will pay tribute to these men and women who have made sacrifices to protect the freedoms we enjoy. To help us prepare, we ask that you please contact the front office with the name of your child and his/her Veteran guest. Due to space constraints, we are limiting this assembly to our students, staff, and Veterans.
For our students,
Ms. Tomei
