November 2 - 8:30 a.m. Building the Brain through the Heart - Trauma Informed Schools with Rebecca Lewis-Pankratz
I fight pOVERty. I have walked with dozens of families as they made it completely out of pOVERty. I see pOVERty as the main driver for most social problems. So let’s get people out of pOVERty! I work with kids, parents, educators and communities to do just that! Trauma-informed and restorative justice principles are the tool belt. Changed mindsets become the toolbox, and relationships are the playground for taking this age-old dilemma and turning it into a winnable game.
Experience the Poverty Paradigm Experience
Want to empower your educators to find new ways to reach poor kids and their parents? The Poverty Paradigm Experience simulates the tangle of housing, utilities, food, transportation, school, mental health, social services and work that children or parents in poverty experience every day.
Hear Rebecca’s story and learn the nuts and bolts of building a trauma-informed classroom.

November 11-17 Dude Be Kind Week
What is a Dude, Be Kind Week?
A Dude, Be Kind Week (DBK Week) is a time where we will focus on how much kindness matters in our communities. Our hope is that this week will spur conversations and activities that will promote kindness, gratitude for those acts of kindness, and inclusiveness, so no one will get left out of the fun.
How Do I Get Started?
- Create a team of people who will support your efforts to bring DBK to your organization.
- Ask your team to think about WHY being kind is important to the community.
- Brainstorm ways you can spread kindness in your district, building or organization.
- Plan a theme for each day of your DBK Week OR make it into a year-long effort!
- Get your organization excited about the positive vibes coming their way.
- Have a blast creating a great experience that will be discussed for weeks and years to come!
