Fire Safety Week!

We learned a lot about Fire Safety this week! Our Art project for the week gave us plenty of rules to follow at home to practice fire safety. A lot of us wanted to hang it on our refrigerators so that we can remember what we learned.

On Tuesday, we Skyped with Firefighter Neil, a firefighter from Philadelphia. We were able to go on a tour of his Fire Station and see some of the equipment that he uses. We asked questions about how he drives such a big truck and what type of clothing he wears to protect himself. We wrote letters to the Philadelphia Fire Department thanking them for the experience. Then, the Logan Township Fire Department visited! They taught us what to do if our clothes catch on fire- stop, drop, and rock. We had a chance to see their trucks and equipment up close! Many of the students came in on Wednesday and told us they had the chance to visit the Logan Fire Station that evening. Thank you for continuing on the learning at home!

Upcoming Important Dates and Information!

  • Monarch Butterfly Parade will be SOON! We do not have a specific date but we will let you know as soon as we can. PLEASE SEND IN A WHITE T-SHIRT SO THAT WE CAN DECORATE OUR COSTUMES! A note is going home about this today!
  • No School on Monday, October 12th! Happy Columbus Day! See you Tuesday.
  • Class Talent Show: Friday, November 13th. Information to be sent home soon.
  • Our Fall Festival Parade & Party: Friday, October 30th.

Our Fall Party is coming quick and we need some help! Early next week, I will be sending a flyer home requesting some small food items for our party. Please send in the food item if you can. If you are not able to do so, please let me know so that I can assign it to another parent.

We are looking forward to an awesome party on October 30th, thanks to our Room Volunteer, Mrs. Salvatore! Thanks for all that you do!

Monarch Butterflies Are Ready to Change!

We currently have four chrysalis' in our classroom. These will change into butterflies over the next week of so! We are anxiously awaiting their metamorphosis! We will know they are ready to change as the color of the chrysalis goes from bright green to black and clear (you can actually see the butterfly wings through the chrysalis). We cannot wait for our butterflies to emerge in time for our Butterfly Parade (date and time TBD)

Today we had our Kick-Off Paws carnival to end our Week of Respect. All week, we participated in lessons that taught our how to be respectful: in our school, to our classmates and adults, to ourselves, and to the Earth! We were able to celebrate all our learning in our culminating activity - the Carnival Kick-Off! We played lots of games that focused on our four social components (safe, kind, respectful, responsible). We are bringing home our reward (a scratch off art project) and our ticket that we earned today. Please ask us about our day!

Guided Reading Information

You may have noticed that Yellow Folders did not come home every night this week. When this happens, please make sure that you continue to read with your child- you can use a Library book or books from home. This sometimes will occur because of a change in our schedule or because many of our students have shown such an improvement that we are ready to assess and cannot meet with all groups. Thank you in advance for your understanding!

Have a Safe and Happy Weekend!
