Chapter 6- Street Resilience
Have you ever hit rock bottom? Have you been hit with the pain of disrespect, discrimination, or the consequences of your own ill actions. Or maybe your pain was medical diagnosis? How did you survive it? How did you convince yourself to move forward. Most likely, you used this pain as the gasoline or booster to keep pushing you further. Many times we do this with the inner thoughts of "I'll prove them wrong" or "I will never let that happen or do that again". This is you fighting to move forward because of what has happened in your past. This is called street resilience. It is important to share your story ( at an age appropriate level) with your children. Let them know why you didn't crater to the negativity and what your motivating factors were ( especially if the factor was your children) in moving up and out of the negative situation. Modeling street resilience for your children will help teach them how to turn the negative things that happen in their life into a positive.
