RILINK Newsletter

September 2018

RILINK now serves 205 K12 public and private schools!

Big picture

Only Have Time for One Section? Please Read This!

Your school’s RICAT address has changed! Please note that RILINK is now a secure site, and your site’s address has changed, with https at the beginning instead of just http. You will need to edit any links on your LibGuides, school website, library web site, etc. to reflect your site’s new address. Please go to http://guides.rilink.org/directory, find your site, and try out the link. It should be listed with https, go directly to your school’s site on RICAT, and open in a new window. If you need a link to your website to use somewhere else, the RILINK Directory is the place to go, especially if you are using an address in a widget or to point to a Resource List.

WHILE YOU ARE at the Directory, check the rest of the information listed for you and your school, making sure that everything is spelled correctly and is current. Click on your email address to make sure that email will go to you. If you are at a particular site for limited days or hours, this should be noted in the entry. If someone could be looking for your school under a different part of its name, check the Directory for alternate entries and make sure that these are correct also. Please report any changes or additions at http://guides.rilink.org/directory by launching the Directory Update Form at the top of the page. You can use the same form to let us know about any personnel changes at a school or district.

If your school is participating in Interlibrary Loan and you want to use Destiny Discover, students and teachers should first log into Destiny Classic and then select to Destiny Discover under the Catalog tab.

If students and teachers go directly to Destiny Discover by using the new Destiny app/link or by accessing any of the following the web links: https://destinydiscover.com , https://gofollett.com, or your site’s address for Destiny Discover, the option under the “hamburger” symbol on the top left to exit to Destiny Classic is not available. They would have to log out of Destiny Discover and log into Destiny Classic in order to place an interlibrary loan request. Follett has stated that it is planning to fix this issue with the next release.

There is still no interlibrary loan function available in Destiny Discover although Holds can be placed on items in your own collection.

Please note that [security.follettsoftware.com] must be whitelisted by your school or district in order to use Destiny Discover when logged in.

Celebrate Our Member Librarians

At the close of the school year, three of our member librarians were recognized for their fine contributions to their schools and districts.

Lisa Casey was named Jamestown Teacher of the Year.

Suzanne Jordan was named Myron Francis Teacher of the Year.

Jen Simoneau was named Teacher of the Year for the Foster-Glocester Regional School District and Distinguished Middle Level Educator by RIMLE.

Congratulations to them all!

Destiny and Destiny Discover

Did you miss The Welcome Back newsletter? It included considerable information about Destiny and Destiny Discover. View it here.

If you use the Destiny Follett app for circulation, you may need to repeat the initial login procedure using the secure address https://www.ricat.net to access your site. Once you have done this, the app will remember your site. Learn more about Follett apps on our website at http://guides.rilink.org/home/apps2018.

LORI ILL Delivery

OLIS will resume LORI Delivery to school libraries beginning on September 17, 2018. Delivery will follow the same schedule as last year.

Deadline Reminder: Friday, September 7 for LORI School Library Closures Survey!

All Regular (including Hubs) and DOD delivery schools are required to submit this survey

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2019schools before the end of the school day on Friday, September 7. Please direct any questions to Karen Andrews or Chaichin Chen at OLIS.

Did your library achieve LORI certification in March 2018? Do you need interlibrary loan training? If both of those things are true, please complete the Activate ILL form and a RILINK staff person will get back to you to schedule training. Please submit forms no later than September 30. Thank you!

The Interlibrary Loan Portal provides a wealth of information all in one convenient location. The 2018-2019 Monthly Tally Sheet is available here.

Just a reminder about interlibrary loan holds- students and teachers using Destiny Discover will need to Exit Destiny Discover to Destiny, using the symbol with three vertical bars in the upper left-hand corner to bring up the list of options to return to Destiny Classic, and then follow the usual steps to place an interlibrary loan request. * View a brief screencast.

*This option is only available if the patron initially accessed Destiny Discover from Destiny Classic. This "glitch" will be addressed in the next update.

If you have questions about any aspect of ILL, please contact RILINK Staff.
