Session 2A: “Emotional Classroom Management” presented by Brett Welch & Allison Kahelski (Arlington Ballroom)
One of the biggest challenges of being a school counselor is managing a classroom during guidance lessons, especially when you have one or more challenging students! Learn some tried and true ways to manage a classroom and specific students, motivating the behaviors you want to see and effectively managing the behaviors you don't. Practice real life situations and determine which adult responses produce student behavioral solutions. Use these techniques yourself and share them with your teachers! This session is mostly geared toward elementary but can be modified for any level.
Or
Session 2B: “Interweaving the ASCA Themes into your Comprehensive School Counseling Program” presented by Darrell Sampson (Clarendon Ballroom)
As schools move towards developing comprehensive school counseling programs and consider completing RAMP applications, there is often more of a focus on the essential components and less on the themes of the ASCA Model. This session will help school counselors think about how to incorporate the themes into their programs with a focus on the foundational skill of building relationships.
11:45 AM-1:30 PM: Lunch on your own – Ballston is full great places to eat within a short walking distance from the Holiday Inn. Enjoy this time to get some fresh air and catch up with colleagues!

School Counselors and School Administrators play a critical and influential role in fostering the social-emotional development of their students.
