Curbside Meal Service Change

Great news! In support of the Stay Home, Work Safe Order, social distancing and in an effort to provide more flexibility and convenience to parents, Galena Park I.S.D. has revised the curbside meal distribution guidelines and schedule.
Due to a change in requirements from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the Texas Department of Agriculture (TDA), effective April 6, 2020, Galena Park I.S.D. (GPISD) is able to allow parents to pick up curbside Grab-and-Go meals without students being present. Parents can pick up meals for currently enrolled students by providing a copy of the GPISD Enrollment Verification Form (paper or electronic) that was emailed through Skyward Family Access or mailed to those without a valid email address on file. If the parent does not have the form to show, he/she will receive meals for the number of students present.
On Thursday, April 9, Student Nutrition Services will send home breakfast and lunch meals for the Good Friday holiday and Monday, April 13. Additionally, students will receive breakfast items for the weekend. Please click here to review the updated Meals Distribution Calendar.
Beginning Wednesday, April 15, 2020, the distribution schedule will change to three days a week; students will receive breakfast and lunch for two days, and meals will be distributed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. On Fridays, Grab-and-Go meal packages will consist of three breakfast meals and one hot lunch, to provide breakfast for Friday through Sunday and lunch for Friday. Please note, the distribution sites will remain the same. However, the meal service time will change to only one pick up, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Any child age 18 and younger is eligible to receive free meals. The child does not need to attend the distribution site school, nor does the child need to be enrolled in Galena Park I.S.D. However, students not enrolled in GPISD schools must be present to receive food items.
For the remainder of the closure, the monthly curbside meals menu can be accessed on the GPISD website’s COVID-19 information page. (Click Here to View the Menu). Thank you for your support as we continue to improve and streamline processes associated with the COVID-19 school closure.
