Reading & Language Workshop
Writing Workshop
Here are some opinions:
- The stepmother in Cinderella is mean.
- Snow White is the best princess.
- Jack should not have gone up the beanstalk a second time.
- Hansel and Gretel were clever children.
Math Workshop
Our focus in math workshop is money. Students need to identify coins by knowing their name and understanding their value. You can give your child a pile of quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies. Have them practice counting and finding the total. Strategy reminder: group like coins together and count the largest coins first.
In addition to counting coins, students need to be able to solve math problems using money. Their answer needs to include the cents or dollar symbol. Example: "Joe has 3 quarters, two dimes, and five pennies. How much money did he have?" Example: "Tanya went to the store with two dollars. She spent $1.35. How much money did she get in return? Show the coins she could have received."
Math money problems frequently have two-steps, so it is important to be a close reader!

Valentine's Day Friendship Party - 2CM
Valentine's Day is coming up on Wednesday, February 14th! We wanted to let you know that we do a whole class party similar to the Christmas and Halloween party.
Students are asked to bring in a decorated box between Monday, February 5th - Wednesday, February 7th. It should be a shoebox size or larger. It should have an opening slot big enough for cards to fit through. Please make sure their name is written in large letters (first and last name).
Students are asked to create 54 valentines (since we are a double class). Please have your child sign the card, but leave the To: blank. This year, due to the new policies, please prepare non-food, non-candy valentines.
Students will pass out valentines in groups each day. (We can't have all 54 kids at the same time.) Please have your child bring his/her valentines on the following day:
#1-11 Wednesday, February 7th
#12-22 Thursday, February 8th
#23-34 Friday, February 9th

A Little Housekeeping...
- Please make sure your child has working headphones at school. If there is a problem with them (missing, broken, etc), please replace and return to school. We use them frequently and want to make sure every child is prepared each day.
- With all the illnesses going around, please remind your child to cover their coughs and sneezes and to wash their hands thoroughly many times a day. Also, if anyone is willing to donate lysol wipes, we would very much appreciate them!
- Your child's iPad should be charged every day to 100%. Also, if there are any updates to do, please complete them. We want to make sure the newest version of IOS is on there so that the app works correctly. Thanks!
